Music Study Club To Hold
Luncheon Meeting Dec. 14

The Music Study Club will hold
a regular luncheon meeting and
program at the home of Mrs. Ben-
jamin Laikin on Tuesday, Dec.
14, as a prelude to its forthcom-
ing artist concert at which Ju-
dith Sidorsky, pianist, will be
guest artist.

Wives of Men In Service Funds totaling $2,410 have been The Department of Michigan,

Mrs. David Kliger, acting presi-
dent of the Women's Auxiliary to
the Maimonides Medical Society,
presided recently over the annual
membership luncheon held in the
Canterbury House, at which event
25 wives of Maimonides members
in the armed forces were the hon-
ored guests. Co-chairmen of ar-
rangements for this event were
Mrs. Oscar U. Shapero and Mrs.
Ben Ross. Others whose efforts
helped make this a successful af-
fair were the officers and commit-
tee chairmen, including Mesdames
Nathan J. Kapetansky, Marvin B.
Levy, Irvin Weisenthal, Sydney
S. Levine, I. Z. Silverman, Julius
Gitlin, Morris Witus, Ezra Lipkin,
Leo Orecklin, R. J. Mendelssohn,
Fred Barbas and Mrs. Charles
Gitlin, the latter rendering the
benediction.
Last week a regular meeting
was held at the home of Mrs.
Kliger on Calvert avenue, with
Mesdames M. Levy, E. Moss, I. Z.
Silverman and J. Gitlin acting as
co-hcstesses. Luncheon preceded a
short business meeting and the
guest speaker was Miss Helen
Burns, director of the Wayne
County Clinic for Child Study,
who spoke on "The Community's
Responsibility Toward Juvenile
Delinquency."
Wives of Jewish doctors in De-
troit are invited to join this
group. Information regarding af-
filiation may be obtained from the
membership chairman, Mrs. Julius
Gitlin, Davison 7760, or from the
president pro-tem, To. 8-1795. The
bond and stamp booth in the lobby
of the Maccabee building is oper-
ated by this organization, with
Mrs. Ezra Lipkin, the war efforts
chairman, in charge. A pledge of
$75 was made to the recent War
Chest Campaign.
Mrs. A. S. Rogoff, president for
the current year, has been residing
in New Rochelle, New York, since
last July, having joined Dr. Ro-
goff who is stationed at Fort
Slocum, New Rochelle.

It is the aim of the membership
committee to increase the number
of members by 500. This is the
goal set for this year.
The chairman of this year's en-
rollment project is Dr. Albert E.
Bernstein, with Julius Berman
and Morris Fishman as co-chair-
men.
While the purpose of the com-
mittee is to increase the number
of members for the United He-
brew Schools, the work is educa-
tional in character. At each meet-
ing there is an address delivered

MASTER PLUMBERS AUX. TEA
There will be a charity-bridge-
tea at Kern's Auditorium on
Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 1 p. m.,
to be given by the Ladies' Auxili-

War Chest and American Red
Cross. Mrs. Sam Ginsberg of

BNAI DAVID MEN'S CLUB
The Bnai David Men's Club
held the first of their Saturday
evening entertainments for boys
and girls, 14 to 17 years, at their
social hall, 14th and Elmhurst.
A large group thoroughly enjoyed
the varied program and are eager-
ly looking forward to the next
evening's entertainment, to be
held this Saturday evening, Dec.
11, at the same place, at 8 p.
The program includes (lancing,
singing, games and refreshments.

FRIENDLY AID SOCIETY
The North Friendly Aid Society
will celebrate its fourth anniver-
sary with a banquet to be held
on Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Moss
Catering, 5028 Joy Rd. Admis-
sion will be $3.50 per plate. All
proceeds of this affair will go to
the War Chest. $100.00 was
given to the Red Cross and money
was given to Palestine for the
care of a child. Mrs. Fishman is

Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish
War Veterans held an open meet-
ing at Congregation Bnai Moshe
on Thursday, Dec. 2.
The newly elected officers that
were installed that night, to fill
vacated offices, were Lillian Mor-
ris, junior vice president; Ilattie
Cohen, chaplain; Kathleen Gol,i_
fine, trustee; Beatrice Weisberg --
was also installed as flag bearer.
In commemoration of Pearl Har-
bor Day, a reading of the Four
Freedoms was given: Freedom of
Speech was given by Lillian Mor-
ris; Ilene Rhodes spoke on Free-
dom of Religion; Kathleen Gold-
fine on Freedom from Want and
Lillian Fink read Freedom from
Fear. Each one was beautifully
portrayed.
Refreshments were served and t
all went home with a much bet-
ter understanding of what the
much talked of our Freedoms
really meant.

'3 cup buttermilk
1 cup flour

Blend shortening and honey. Add
egg and beat until creamy. Add milk
and All-Bran; let soak until most of
moisture is taken up. Sift dry ingre-
dients together; add to first mixture,
stirring only until flour disappears.
Fill greased muffin pans two-thirds
full and bake in moderately hot oven
(400 ° F.) about 25 minutes.
