Works on Smoke Abatement

NEW YORK (WNS) — Prof.
Karl Sollner • a Jewish refugee,
co-inventor of the "belly st 'II"
which enables shipwrecked sailors
aid airmen to manufacture drink-
ing water from sea water, last
week submitted a paper to the
American Chemical Society in
Pittsburgh, Pa., suggesting a sci-
entific method of eliminating
smoke in large cities. it was dis-
closed this week by the National
Refugee Service.
Prof. Sollner, whose interrupt-
ed scientific and academic career
in Germany was re-established
here through the efforts of the Na-
tional Refugee Service, declared
that his "technic may soon find
wide application in the fight
against the smoke nuisance and
at the same time allow the recov-

otherwise lost through the chim-
