LONDON. (WNS) — Reports
reaching here from reliable
sources in Geneva reveal that,
shortly prior to the downfall of
Mussolini, Pope Pius XII sent a
special message to the Italian
government urging the removal
of 16,000 alien Jewish refugees
who were kept interned in camps
in northern Italy. The report also
stated that the Pope was prompt-
ed to make that move by a de-
sire to prevent those Jews from
falling into German hands.
The Italian government, con-
tinued the report, promptly com-
plied with the Pope's request and
transferred most of the Jewish

Say Tunisian Jews Eager
For Zionist Activity

JERUSALEM, Aug. 9 (Palcor)
Tunisian Jews are eager for
'Zionist activity and pioneer
training," it was declared here
by members of Jewish Palestinian
forces who participated in the
Tunisian campaign and have now
arrived home on furlough. The
soldiers brought greetings to the
Yishuv from North African Jew-
ry, "who suffered under Axis.
rule and are now happy as a
result of their liberation."
It was stated that Jews had
remained in all the towns of
Tunisia where they had made
their homes despite the fact that
they were severely persecuted by
the Nazis, their property plun-
dered and their synagogues dese-
crated. It was essential, the Pal-
estinian Jewish troops asserted,
to provide them with material
and spiritual help.
