even mutiny, on the part of the Italian
soldiers. This is not the first time that
units of the Italian army have surrendered
joyously. Why have they done so upon ev-
ery occasion that they have had an oppor-
tunity to do so? We do not believe it is be-
cause the Italian soldiers are less disci-
plined or less courageous than soldiers
of other nations, but we do believe
it is because the Italian army as well as
the Italian people have looked upon Fas-
cism as a phoney which by force, chicane
and bluff took over the Italian govern-
ment and compelled an unwilling people
to do the bidding of Mussolini and his
gang.
