Shirley Schechter and
Edith Bernett Win
Fencing Honors

In the finals of the Mid-West
Fencing Tournament, sponsored
by the Amateur Fencing League
of America, which were held on
Sunday, May 30, the Center
Women's Fencing Team won two
honors. Shirley Schechter placed
third in the Women's Foil Com-
petition, and Edith Bernett came
fourth. Reva Geer, who is also
a member of the Center team,
was forced out of the competi-
tion because of illness. Eligibility
for this tournament, which was
held at Tourner's Gymnasium,
was based on competition in the
final State Meet held some time
ago. in which the Center team
placed as finalists. The competi-
tors of this latter meet were the
Salle de Tuscan, Grosse Point
Fencing Club, Kingsley Club,
Wayne University, and Michigan
State University. The three fenc-
ers have collected many medals
in previous State tournaments.

now being arranged with other
groups in the city. The Chess
Club will continue to meet on
Tuesday evenings at the Center,

On Wednesday, June 30, the
Women's Sabbath League is cele-
brating its first anniversary at a
mammoth birthday celebration
which will feature the lighting of
500 candles by each of its mem-
bers pledging the re-kindling of
the light of the Sabbath in an
originally created ceremony. De-
tails of the event will be an-
nounced later.

of games and dancing. with a
dip in the pool following. The
first outdoor program is sched-
uled for June 13.
The group is formulating plans
for Saturday night dances. the
first of which will be held on
June 19, at 9 n. m., in the out-
door court. Refreshments will be
