DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle

An Open Letter to the
Jewish Community
of Detroit:

250,000 American Jews served in the last
World War. 400,000 of them are already in service
in this war, with thousands more joining the colors
weekly.

Many of them are from Detroit. They are
your husbands, sons, brothers, friends.

These men cannot take part in person in the
forthcoming elections for Detroit Delegates to the
American Jewish Conference. They are too busy
fighting and (lying.

member party, to be held on
Monday, June 21 at 1:30 p. m.,
at the Jewish Home for Aged
on Petoskey Ave. In former years
only those members who could
bring a prospective member were
eligible to attend this annual
affair, but this year all members
are invited.
Mrs. Harry Meer, chairman of
the party, and her co-chairman,
Mrs. Mark Benach, are hoping
that all members, whose 1942-
1943 dues are as yet unpaid, will
avail themselves of this oppor-
tunity to pay up their dues, as
well as enjoy a delightful party.
They also hope to enroll many
new members. Mrs. David Kliger,
program chairman, promises most
fascinating entertainment and
refreshments will be served.
The need has arisen for an
automobile for the use of the
Home to facilitate the delivery
of all food and vegetable purchas-
es for the residents, as well as to
take care of the unexpected em-
ergencies which frequently arise
in the care of the aged, requir-
ing the constant availability of
a car. The Women's Auxiliary has
undertaken to finance the pur-
chase of a vehicle for this pur-
pose. This is only one of the
many projects which the orga-
nization has sponsored for the
betterment of the aged residents
of the Home.
Any member desiring to pay
her dues may telephone Mrs.
Meer, No. 0596, or Mrs. Benach,
No. 8552, who will be glad to
arrange to have one of their
committee call.

Carl C. Adams Honored
By Temple Beth El

They are fighting and dying to bring victory
to America and the United Nations. Without that
victory and their help in securing it—the American
Jewish Conference will be a futile and meaning-
less gathering, for our Jewish brethren abroad,
for whom American Jewry hopes to intercede at
the forthcoming Peace Conference, will be no
longer alive.

These men are entitled to representation at
the American Jewish Conference. A so-called

local slate of candidates which does not give repre-
sentation to Jewish men in service does not fairly
represent Detroit Jewry.

There is one organization which speaks di-
rectly for American Jews who have borne or now
bear arms for their country—The Jewish War
Veterans of the United States of America. The

I SAID GOOD-BYE
TO CONSTIPATION

-

"To uphold the fair name of the Jew,
and fight his battles wherever un-
justly assailed ; to encourage the doc-
trine of universal liberty, equal rights
and full justice to all men; to combat
the powers of bigotry and darkness
wherever originating and whatever
their target; to instill love of Country
and Flag and foster and perpetuate
true Americanism."

Certainly, every Jew can subscribe to this
platform. It is a declaration against pussy-footing
policies or hush-hush tactics in dealing with anti-
Semitism and for a self-respecting, courageous
and militant assertion of our rights as men, Jews
and Americans.

Woe to the wise and learned
men, who are not virtuous. Woe
to him who has no dwelling and
tries to build a door to it.

The American Jewish Conference will gain
added prestige and weight; its voice, raised in
behalf of persecuted, suffering world Jewry, will
be stronger and more ringing; its demands for
justice to the Jew will be heard with greater
respect—if it includes the direct representatives
of the Jewish men who have
fought and who are

fighting for America.
