Dietary Laws Observed
At Colonial Hotel,
Mt. Clemens, Mich.

There have been numerous
malicious rumors circulated re-
cently concerning the observation
and adherence of dietary laws at
the Colonial Hotel and Mineral
Baths in Mt. Clemens, Mich.
In behalf of our hotel may the
management, through the columns
of The Detroit Jewish Chronicle,
repudiate these malicious rumors,
and may I, Max Elkin, managing
director, take this opportunity
to denounce these malicious ru-
mors and assure our many friends
who have been our patrons and
guests, as well as all prospective
patrons and guests, that all die-
tary laws are adhered to today
as they always have been in past
years, to the letter.
The Colonial Hotel purchases
the meat and poultry that it
serves its guests from the same
butcher that has served them for
many years, the same butcher
that serves the larger hotels in
Mt. Clemens.
Hoping that this open letter
will set at rest for once and all
the malicious rumors circulated
in the past, and thanking all for
their past patronage and inviting
our prospective guests to feel
secure that dietary laws will be
adhered to today as in the past,

HINSHAW BILL

Congressman Hinshaw has again
introduced legislation in the
House of Representatives of the
United States Congress providing
for the closing of foreign lan-
guage schools. The bill is known
as H. R. 1360.
Hinshaw H. R. 1360 provides
for the abolition of foreign lan-
guage schools, which includes
schools conducted in any cur-
rent language other than the
English language or other for-
eign languages commonly used by
the inhabitants of Unitel States
Territories.
The American Jewish Congress
went on record last year in oppo-
sition to a similar bill introduced
by Congressman Hinshaw, on the
ground that it would result in
the closing of schools conducted
in the Hebrew or Yiddish Ian
guage, and on the ground that
foreign cultures do not necessar-
ily carry with them anti-Ameri-
can ideals.

The State of Arizona has al-
ready memorialized the House of
Representatives in favor of this
bill. We must offset such further
action by organizing an effective
opposition to such legislation.
Letters should be written, particu-
larly to the Chairman of the
House Committee on Education,
the Hon. Graham A. Barden,
House Office Building, Washing-
ton, D. C., who should be urged
to have the bill defeated in com-
mittee on the ground that it is
un-American in spirit.
