slate of candidates to fill the po-
sitions of officers and executive
committee members for the Jewish
Community Council for the 1943-
45 term. The slate will include
as representative a group of per-
sons as possible, so that every
segment and group in the Jew-
ish Community will be adequately
represented. It is essential that
the executive committee of the
Jewish Community Council rep-
resents the Jewish community
of Detroit in all its important
groupings.
This slate of candidates will be
presented to the delegates at their
meeting Tuesday evening, June
22. The constitution provides that
additional nominations may be
made from the floor. From all
names proposed, the delegates will
elect the new officers and new
executive committee of the Jew-
ish Community Council. This new
administration will be responsi-
ble for the functioning and for
the policies of the Jewish Com-
munity Council during the two-
year period, 1943-45.
There have been a number of
requests for studying the consti-
tution of the Jewish Community
Council in the light of six years'
experience in the functioning of
the organization. It was felt that
sonic new needs have arisen in
the community which could not
have been foretold at the time
when the constitution was first
adopted. With the view to mak-
ing a careful analysis of the
Community Council's constitution
in the light of present day re-
quirements, James I. Ellmann,
president of the Jewish Com-
munity Council, appointed the
following persons to constitute
the constitution study commit-
tee: Joseph Bernstein, Lawrence
Crohn, Morris Garvett, Myron
Keyes, Samuel W. Lieb and Louis
Rosenzweig. If any amendments
appear to be necessary, this com-
mittee will make such sugges-
tions to the executive commit-
tee at its next session, and the
delegates will give consideration
to such amendments, at the next
delegates' conference.
