TO HASTEN
VICTORY

No American wants this war

to go one minute beyond the

time we can bring it to a vic-

torious end. To hasten that

victory—to save possibly the

lives of millions of our boys

on our far flung fronts—it is

imperative that every Ameri-

can do his part in the Second

War Loan. There is an invest-

ment to fit every purse. The

most you can do is little

enough compared with the sac-

rifice offered by our boys in

service. They give their lives—

you lend your money.

Detroiters Responding
With Watches for Russia

"Over 500 watches have already
been sent in to Russian War Re-
lief headquarters and this does
not count many more deposited
with jewelers throughout the city,"
said Wendell C. Goddard, chair-
man of the watches-for-Russia
committee.
Detroiters are giving liberally
of their timepieces in response ,to
the request by doctors and nurses
of the Soviet army who are now
forced to work without watches be-
cause of the almost universal con-
version of Russian factories to
war production.
Two watch factories outside
Moscow have been totally de-
stroyed by enemy bombing, others
have been converted to war pro-
duction, watch makers are work-
ing on precision parts for fighting
equipment—thus, a great short-
age of watches has developed in
Russia, watches needed urgently
by thousands of Soviet army doc-
tors and nurses.
Detroit jewelers are authorized
to accept watches for Russ;a.
They will give a receipt to each
donor, make minor repairs, and
handle shipment to headquarters.
Or watches may be left at Rus-
sian War Relief headquarters,
2208 Penobscot Bldg.
The drive in the metropolitan
Detroit area which started a week
ago will continue until May 15.
Many jewelers have already in-
dicated that they would repair a
substantial number of watches.
One jeweler stated that he would
repair as many as 40 watches
free.
Wrist or pocket watches in good
condition, preferably with second
hands, will become vital pieces of
medical equipment at the Russian
front. Watches are necessary to
time operations, anaesthetic ad-
ministrations, intravenous in lee-
tions, blood transfusions and other
operations in which the element
of time is of great importance.
Over 100 metropolitan theaters
will distribute leaflets to their pa-
trons this coming week in order
to help in fully presenting this
vital need for these watches to
everyone in Detroit. Russia is
fighting a winning war—you can
help—give a watch.

Culminating its recent mem-
.bership drive, Louis Marshall
Lodge of B'nai B'rith will ini-
tiate 102 new members at its
meeting May 4 at the Rose Sittig
Cohen building, Lawton and Wav-
erly, it was announced by Act-
ing President Sol Rosenman. This
drive increased the membership
of the lodge by approximately
one-third and was held in con-
nection with the 100th Anni-
versary of the founding of B'nai
B'rith. The drive, under the di-
rection of Samuel G. Bank, mem-
bership chairman, was the most
successful in the history of the
organization.
The Louis Marshall Bowling
League has announced its an-
nual banquet to be held at Saks
Show Bar, Monday evening, May
3, at which time trophies will
be presented to the team and
individual winners who have par-
ticipated in the league conducted
by the lodge for the past season.
The success of the recent war
bond campaign conducted by the
Detroit B'nai B'rith Council and
the member lodges has caused
Louis Marshall to re-institute its
drive for the sale of war bonds.
This will continue for the dura-
tion of the war, according to
present plans, and Chairman
William B. Chatman has an-
nounced the hope that B'nai
B'rith will continue its great
record in war service activities
through the efforts of the lodge
members in this new campaign.
