Detroit Palestine Histadrut Campaign
Goes Over the Top in Drive for $50,000
An enthusiastic capacity audi-
ence at the victory wind-up and
concert at the Detroit Institute of
Arts last Sunday heard that the
Geverkshaften campaign went
"over the top" for the first time
in its history in Detroit.
The quota was $50,000. The
exact amount raised will be an-
nounced in a subsequent edition,
as all the workers are still hard
at work seeing their prospects that
they have not covered to date. A .
very substantial sum over and

The concert was opened with
the singing of the national an-
them and Hatikvah. Meyer Ses-
ling greeted the audience in the
name of the Palestine workers and
introduced the chairman of the
evening, Morris L. Schaver, who
also is chairman of the campaign.
Mr. Schaver thanked everybody
who contributed to the success of
the campaign without mentioning
any names as the listing of all
who worked so zealously for the
last 10 weeks was too long and
would have consumed too much
time.
The audience honored the mem-
ory of the fallen martyrs in Nazi-
occupied Europe by one minute
of silence.
A new chamber music trio in
Detroit, consisting of Katja Andy,
pianist; Jascha Schwarzman, 'cell-
ist, and Henry Siegl, violinist, gave
a beautiful interpretation of the
"Trio in B Flat," by Schubert.
Jacob BenAmi of New York
thrilled the audience with a few
dramatic recitations.
Emma Schaver was received
with tremendous applause and af-
ter singing four numbers had to
give an encore, accompanied by
Henry Siegl. All her numbers
were accompanied on the piano
by Rebecca Frohman.
The main event of the evening
was an address by Dr. Solomon
Goldman, who flew in from New
York especially for this meeting,
in spite of his father's grave ill-
ness. Dr. Goldman praised the
constructive work of the Histadrut
in Palestine and after painting a
dark and gloomy picture of the
Jewish world situation, he ex-
pressed the firm belief in the fu-
ture of Palestine as a Jewish
homeland and the future of the
Jewish nation throughout the
world.
