MUSIC THAT'S DIFFERENT!

A landing party in New Guinea is pictured above, from the
Downtown Telenews premier showing of "Army Chaplain," fea-
turette of the new program beginning today at 5 p. m. With
these troops goes the Army Chaplain, "Quartermaster of the sol-
dier's soul," for it has been found that there are "no atheists" in
fox holes. Stirring in its treatment, this film blends all faiths,
Catholic, Protestant and Jewish, for on the field the chaplain
must minister to all religions. Included on the new program are
the latest news shots including F. D. R.'s historic trip to Africa.

Girl. Victims of Nazis
To Be Memorialized

Saturday, Feb. 13, has been
designated as "Memorial Sabbath"
by the Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance to honor the
memory of the 92 girls in the
Beth Jacob School of Warsaw
who collectively chose death and
took poison in preference to a
fate of shame the Nazi authori-
ties had decreed for them. They
asked only that Jews of the
world say Kaddish for them.
The Women's Sabbath Observ-
ance League has asked the rabbis
of Detroit to devote their ser-
mons on Saturday, Feb. 13, to
memorializing the memory of
these martyrs and mothers and
daughters are urged to attend
the synagogue on that Sabbath.

Fifi D'Orsay, famous French
singing comedienne, who was due
to open as the Club Casanova

was forced to cancel at the last
moment through inability to se-

Kane of "boop-a-doop" fame,
headliner of countless stage and
radio shows and motion pictures.

porting cast are Billie Samuel,
master of ceremonies and acro-
batic tumbler ,assisted by lovely
Marvella, who also does a solo

spectacular Indian adagio, and
Sandra, fascinating acrobatic
dancer. It's Charles "Toasty"

"The Dybbuk" by Ansky
At Littman's Peoples
Theater This Week-End

"The Dybbuk" by Ansky, and
"Mazel Tov" with Michael Rosen-
berg in the leading role are the
film attractions at Littman's Peo-
ples Theater this week-end of
Feb. 5-7.
"The Dybbuk" is one of the
classic dramas of the Yiddish stage.
The story is that of an obsessed
girl. It is one that is filled with
pathos, beauty and mysticism.
Every artistic group of actors on
the Yiddish and Hebrew stage
has chosen it for presentation.
The Vilna Troupe, the Jewish Art
Theater with Maurice Schwartz
and the Habima Players have de-
lighted American audiences with
it. The present cast is made up
of Polish stars whose perform-
ance has been acclaimed.

Chiquita and Marionettes
At Hotel Savarine

Gene Fenby and his orchestra
are securely launched on one of
their most successful engage-
ments in the Fiesta Bar and new
Continental Room of the Sava-
rine Hotel, judging from the
long-term contract handed him
by Owner Frank Fishman before
the first week of his swing ses-
sions ended. Fenby is one of the
most talented young maestros in
the business. He doubles on piano,
trombone, bass viol, and is one
of the voices in his vocal quar-
tette. He leads an organization in
which good singing and enter-
tainment go hand in hand with
good instrumental music. Start-
ig Wednesday, Feb. 3, Fenby
has been joined by that popular
singing bombshell from Mexico,
Bonita Montez, who has been
taking Detroit by storm for some
time now. A few weeks back,
Bonita was a shy and retiring in-
dividual with a good voice and
looks. She has come a long way
since then, acquiring all the fire
and dash of her famous Spanish
contemporary,
Iffy, Carmen Miranda.
The all-star floor show, this week-
end, Friday, Saturday and Sun-
day, features Chiquita and her
Marionettes, and Shirley Weber,
the dainty tapster.

An important conference is
called by Aaron Rosenberg, chair-
man of the Folks Committee for
Russian War Relief, for Sunday,
Feb. 7, at 1 p. m., at Jericho
Temple, 2705 Joy Rd.
The campaign for warm clothes
is in full swing. The Folks com-
mittee has recently opened eight
receiving depots for warm cloth-
ing.
The campaign for used warm
clothing is an effort in which
many people of Detroit can par-
ticipate. Thousands of articles
of extra clothing which are not
used by the owners will be actual
life savers in the cold Russian
battle zone.
Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka will
address the conference.

clothing call Mr. Rosenberg,
