the evening. Morris Dombey will
give a few of his humorous read-

Peter Vass, Merchant
Dies at Age of 57
Peter Vass, aged 57, died at his
home 270 E. Kirby Ave. on Sun-
day a fternoon of a heart attack.
He was born in Raksa, Hungary,
on June 15, 1885 and at the age
of 17 came to the United States.

PETER VASS
He lived in New York City until
1910 and then came to Detroit,
where he went into the real es-
tate business in Delray. Except
for a period of about a year when
he lived in Flint, and promoted
the sale of sub-divisions, Mr. Vass
resided in Detroit for over 32
years. He opened the first army
and Navy store in the United
States, purchasing surplus mer-
chandise from the government. He
operated a six-story department
store on Michigan Ave. In 1932
he opened up one of the outstand-
ing riding apparel and sporting
goods establishments in the U. S.
and became an authoritzed gov-
ernment officers' supply post in
Detroit.
Mr. Vass was a member of Bnai
Brith and of the Masonic Order.
He was a past president of Con-
gregation Bnai Moshe, which he
helped build. He was interested
in all Jewish affairs and contrib-
uted to all worth while . charities.
He is survived by his wife Net-
tie Vass: four daughters, Mrs.
Leonard Fox, Mrs. Wilbur Loew-
enberg. Mrs. Allan Tolmich and
Alice Vass; two sisters, Mrs.
Sidney Rosman and Ilonka Vass
of New York, and two brothers,
Frank and Dr. 'sailor Vass of
New York.
The funeral services were held
