He received his Jewish education in the .tradi- tional Cheder and studied Tal- mud at the age of 10. Educated in the gymnasium at Vilno, medi- cal school at the University of Berlin, Psycho-Neurolgical Insti- tute of Petrograd and graduated medical school of the Donskey University in Rostov on Don. During his student years, he devoted himself to journalism and short story writing in Yiddish and Russian. He was associated with the Socialist movement in Russia since his early years. The Revolution of 1917 found him in in Rostov on Don where he was active in Jewish socialist circles and also in the newly-created agencies of the revolutionary period. During the years of the civil war in Russia, Dr. Kleinman served as a physician in the armies, the White as well as the Red. Dr. Kleinman continued his writings in Yiddish all through the period of the Revolution, and participated in Yiddish cultural organizations of that period. The end of the war with Po- land found Dr. Kleinman in Po- land serving in the Polish army as a physician. After demobiliza- tion in 1922 he came to Warsaw where he devoted himself to journalism, contributing regularly to the "Folkszeitung" and repre- senting the monthly "Folksge- zunt". Dr. Kleinman came to this country in 1923, and at first was associated with "Dos Naie Wort" of Boston, serving at the same time as resident physician in a hospital ,in Lawrence, Mass. In 1927 he came to Detroit. During the 15 years of his residence here he has been active in many liberal movements in the city, being associated with the Social- ist and labor movements. participated actively in every Yiddish cultural enterprise.
