Rabbi Finkelstein Urges
Worldwide Brotherhood

The Twentieth Century will go
down in history, not only as the
time of th - i most bloody conflict
in human existence, but as the
century of the greatest revelation
of divine will, in the opinion of
Rabbi Louis Finkelstein, Ph.D., of
New York City, president of the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America.
"The things for which religion
stands—such as brotherhood—are
now being forced upon a mank'nd
that wanted to run away from its
destiny and, whether we like it or
not, we must establish world
brotherhood or perish," Dr. Fin-
kelstein warned 300 persons at
Hotel Statler at a luncheon
planned by the Detroit Round
Table of Catholics, Jews and
Protestants.
The Rabbi and noted research
scholar termed this generat'on as
one of man's greatest periods.
"In the infinite wisdom of God,"
he said, "divine energy is forcing
us through the painful crucible
of war to grow up."
German and Japanese leaders
probably believe that they are
imitating America, Rabbi Finkel-
stein said, because this country
has "exported" its industrialism
and inventiveness, but not its
basic ideals of justice.
He cited the freedom accorded
on an equal basis by the 13 orig-
inal colonies to newer states, and
by this country to Cuba and the
Philippines, as moves in which
American application of its religi-
ous traditions of justice had paid
well.
"But we're timid about apply-
ing those traditional print ples in
other fields. We're afraid to be
regarded as visionary," he con-
cluded.
