the trying periods of the insti-

solicitations or admission charge.

the chairman of the evening.

gation Bnai David, Elmhurst at
14th, on Friday, Dec. 25, 1942,
at 8:30 p. m.
The evening has been dedi-
cated to the Jewish National
Fund Convention, taking place
in Detroit and designed to bring
the problem of Palestine and
Jewish National Fund to Detroit
Jewry, by one of its ablest ex-
ponent and active leaders. The
speaker at the Bnai David gath-
ering is the chairman of the ad•
ministrative committee of the
world Jewish Congress, executive
of the American Jewish Congress
and Jewish National Fund. Dr
Goldman, who is participating in
the Jewish National Fund Con-
vention will be the guest of Con-
gregation Bnai David on Friday
evening, Dec. 25, and deliver
the principal address at the Fri-
day night gatherings of the
Synagogue.
Rabbi Sperka will present the
speaker and Cantor Gordon will
be in charge of the musical pro-
gram.
A social hour will take place in
the social hall of the Synagogue
following the program. All are
invited to attend the lecture and
the social hour.
Dr. Goldman is a member of
Zionist Actions Committee. In
1935 he was elected member of
Zionist executive and representa-
tive of the Jewish agency for
Palestine and at the League of
Nations at Geneva. In 1932 he
became president of Jewish dele-
gations in Paris succeeding Leo
Motzkin.

The Woman's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew Schools is now
making preparattions for the
Eleventh Annual Donor Lunch-
eon to be given on Wednesday,
Jan. 27, in the Social Hall of the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek. All
the proceeds go towards the
maintenance of the bus 'system
of the United Hebrew schools.
She general chairman of this
year's luncheon is Mrs. Max Hy-
man, and Mesdames Herman
Wetsman and Harry Kraft are
the co-chairmen.
While this is a fund raising
event, it is at the same time a
well planned educational enter-
prise. The program invariably in-
cludes some very instructive and
entertaining features, generally
depicting the work and achieve-
ments of the organization and
the progress of the school. Last
year the main feature was a

in which the former chairmen of
the ten past donor luncheons
participated. The Kindergarten Women's Auxiliary

Heliodor Sztark, Consul Con_
oralof Poland at Pittsburgh,
a well known and popular friend
of Detroit Jewry, addressed the
Jewish people over radio station
KDKA on Dec. 2 last, the Day
of Mourning, Fast and Prayer,
for the Jewish victims of German
terror. Mr. Sztark said in part:
"The lot of the Jews is being
recognized. Already the Polish
Parliament in exile and the Pol-
ish government in London, on
Nov. 27, took an uncompromis-
ing position, condemning the
mass extinction of the Jewish
population in Poland. The Pol-
ish spirit of toleration is not
only traditional, but historical.
Freedom and victory over ter-
rorism and tyranny must be ours
and the United Nations, led by
the United States, will assure us
of not only winning the war,
but also winning the peace,
thereby avenging the martyrdom
o till suffering+ peoples and
bringing us hope and everlasting
peace. In mourning and sorrow
I bow my head respectfully to
the super-human sacrifices of the
Jewish people.

An attempt is being made by
the Federation, together with the
local Polish Consul, for a special
priorities license to enable them
to secure foods limited or ra-
tioned, which must be included in
the prisoner's packages.
The third bulletin published
under the direction of Benjamin
Graubart appeared this last
week. Special emphasis in this
bulletin was placed on the var-
ious aspects of Federation activ-
ities.
Through the generosity of
Harry Weinberg, director of the
Jewish Radio Hour over Station
WJBK, a special program de-
voted to the Federation activi-
ties will be heard each Sunda'
