At a meeting held at the home
of Mrs. S. Leinoff Dec. 3, an
election of officers of the Ladies
Auxiliary Kvutzah Ivrith took
place.
The following were elected:
Mrs. A. D. Markson, president.
The new vice presidents are:
Mrs. B. Friedgood, A. DeRoven,
s. Leinoff, and J. Rabinowitz;
Mrs. B. Stein, honorary past
president; Mrs. A. Panush, treas-
urer; advisory board: Mrs. S.
Winokur, M. Rapapport, Max
Feldman, D. Garber.
The ladies are sponsoring their
8th annual Donor Luncheon Feb.
10, 1943, which will be an out-
standing affair.
Mrs. A. DeRoven is the gen-
eral chairman and assisted by
Mrs. P. Gortzek and S. Munch.
The Ladies Auxiliary appeals to
its many friends to patronize
their donor luncheon, the pro-
ceeds of which is used to upkeep
of Hebrew Literature, and every-
thing concerning the Hebrew Cul-
ture.

The Kvutzah Ivrith, the He-
brew Cultural Group of De-
troit, will have a somewhat be-
lated Chanukah affair on Satur-
day evening, Dec. 12, at Korn's
Restaurant, Linwood and Richton.
A. J. Lachover, chairman of this
Chanukah program, has prepared
several very fine features such
as brief and appropriate talks,
Chanukah songs, which will be
directed by a member of the
staff of the United Hebrew
Schools, Abraham Schachter, and
several other holiday features.

JOE SALKOWITZ
died Nov. 5 at the age of 60
years. He was buried Nov. 7
from Lewis Bros. Funeral Home,
with interment at the Mt. Sinai
Memorial Cemetery. He is sur-
vived by his mother, Mrs. M.
Salkowitz of Cleveland; two sis-
ters, Mrs. David of Champaign,
III., and Mrs. Charles Kochan of
Cleveland, and a brother, Sam,
of Cleveland.

Louis E. Kirstein,
Jewish Leader, Dies

Louis E. Kirstein, 75 years
old. chairman of the board of
William Filene's Sons, one of
Boston's largest department stores
and nationally known Jewish
philanthropist, died on Thursday
of pneumonia.
A director of such organiza-
tions as Abraham & Straus, Inc.,
of New York, the Foreman Co.,
Bloomingdale Brothers, F. & R.
Lazarus & Co., the Federated De-
partment Stores, and the R. H.
White Co., department store of
Boston. Mr. Kirstein had served
as chairman of the board of the
American Retail Federation. He
had been vice president of Fi-
lene's since 1911.
Active in civic affairs, Mr. Kir-
stein had served as a member of
the executive retailers committee
for the Secretary of the treasury
and as a member of the Business
Advisory Council for the Untied
States Department of Commerce.
Mr. Kirstein was a member of
the National Conference of Jews
and Christian Jewish Committee,
and president of the Associated
Jewish Philanthropies of Boston.
He received from Harvard Uni-
versity an honorary master of
arts degree in 1933.

Cantor Katzman Concert
For Yeshivah a Success

A large crowd attended the
Chanukah concert given for the
benefit of Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah Sunday evening, Dec. 5,
in Congregation Bnai Moshe.
Adolph Beck, president of Con-
gregation Bnai Moshe, opened
the program with a short mes-
sage on behalf of the congrega-
tion.
Cantor Katzman and his choir,
under Nate Turbofsky, rendered
an imposing program of liturgi-
cal and Jewish songs. Dave Diam-
ond's orchestra assisted in the
usual masterful manner. The au-
dience compelled Cantor Katzman
to render many encores, espe-
cially "Rachem" by Manechu-
kow was accepted with the great-
est enthusiasm. Many ovations
were also brought to Mr. Tur-
bofsky who had his choir well in
hand and who had written the
instrumentalization of all He-
brew melodies for the orchestra

HANNAH ABRAMSOHN
of 2251 Chicago Blvd., died Nov.
6 at the age of 78. She was
buried Nov. 7 from Lewis Broth-
ers Funeral Home with inter-
ment at the Machpelah Ceme-
tery. Rabbi Morris Adler and
Cantor Jacob Sonenklar officiated.
She is survived by a (laughter,
