• DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle Recently Organized Zionist Youth Council Chanukah Party Dec. 13 will be willing to work on the common basis of Jewish National Fund. The council has also complet- ed its plans for a Chanukah party to be held Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 1942 at the Rose Sittig Co- hen Bldg., Waverly and Lawton, at 8:30 p. m.. All youth are wel- come. Refreshments will be served and a program is plan- ned. The committee for this af- fair consists of Simcha Alpert and Beth Laikin. Another of the Council's ac- tivities has been to organize Hebrew classes for the member- ship orzanizations. The United Hebrew Schools are backing this project and are assisting in the carrying out of this plan. Ques- tionnaires were given out, in or- der to best know what type of classes are needed. The Zionist Youth Council re- cently formed a committee which will deal specifically with youth's functions in Jewish National Fund work. The committee consists of the seven organizations partici- pating in the Council. In the past all Jewish National Fund activities for youth had been handled in the senior council. The committee has met and elected its officers as follows: Thelma Jaffin, president; Ruthe Bassin, secretary; Sora Levine, treasurer; and Hadassah Yanich who will be the exchange mem- ber between the senior Jewish National Fund Council and the Zionist Youth Council. Fischer, chairman of the board of education, an- nounces the public bi-annual ex- aminations of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah will be held Sunday, Des. 6, from 9:30 a. m. to 12:30 p. m., and on Monday and Tues- day, Dec. 7 and 8, from 4:30 to 7.45 p. m. All 11 grades of the Yeshivah will be examined dur- ing these days. The schedule of the individual examinations has been sent out to the parents, board of directors and the board of education. On each examina- tion day at least one of the Tal- mud classes taught by Rabbi Weiss, Rabbi Unger and Rabbi Carlebach will be heard. The ex- amination also includes the three preparatory classes of this insti- tution. The public is invited. On Jan. 10, 1943, Detroit Mizrachi will celebrate the 31st Anniversary of the founding of the Mizrachi movement with a banquet at the Jericho Temple. Daniel Temchin has been ap- pointed chairman and Meyer Beckman co-chairman of the ban- quet. Sol. B. Edelman has been appointed chairman of the Syn- agogue committee with Louis Dan and L. Szolar as his asso- ciates. Isadore Sosnick, Dr. Moses L. Weiser and Isaac Rosen- thal have been named to the Or- ganization's committee. Meyer Beckman and Lazar Levine have been placed in charge of tickets. Sol Lumberg, executive secre- tary, pointed out that the work of the Mizrachi Organization is not a duplication of the efforts of any group, in that the funds raised by the Mizrachi are used primarily to strengthen the pil- lars of Judaism in Palestine. He stated that it is the conviction of the Mizrachi that the restora- tion of Jewish national life also means the re-establishment of the Torah and Jewish law. EDELMAN URGES PARTICIPATION On Wednesday evening, Dec. 2, a meeting of religious Zion- ist leaders and presidents of Synagogues was held at the home of Sol B. Edelman, chair- man of the Synagogue commit- tee of Detroit Mizrachi, and plans were formulated for in- creasing Mizrachi activity in Or- thodox Jewish circles. Mr. Edelman stated that, "It s the duty of every traditional ew not only to offer lip serv- ce but to actively participate in he cause of Zion. In the spirit 0 f the Macabees of old, we must g o forward with the same zeal a nd vision for the entire land 0 f Israel, without any limita- t ion. The spiritual strength of 0 ur people is needed in our day m ore than in any period of our g reat history and the Mizrachi Z ionists demand that all those w ho profess their love for Zion hall now come forward, as (lid t he Maccabees, to help in the ebirth of our people in Eretz srael."
