The Liggett & Myers Tobacco
Company in announcing a new
newspaper campaign for Ches-
terfield Cigarettes states its be-
lief that what smokers look for
in a cigarette is a mild, good-
tasting smoke . . . and nothing
else.
The present campaign, like pre-
vious Chesterfield campaigns, is
based on the idea that men and
women smoke cigarettes for the
enjoyment they get out of it.
This idea is carried out in the
copy which states that "Chester-
fields give smokers more pleasure
because their right combination
(blend) of tobaccos makes them
milder and better-tasting."
Each advertisement in the cur-
rent series carries a picture and
text from the Chesterfield book-
let "TOBACCO AND P. S. A."
illustrating some phase of cigar-
ette making. This booklet, now
in its fifth million, has had a
wide free distribution and is used
as a source and reference book
on tobacco growing and manufac-
ture in many schools and colleges.
Anyone may obtain a free copy
by writing to Chesterfield, Box
21, New York, N. Y.
The first advertisement in the
series, which will appear in news-
papers about the middle of Nov.
shows a U. S. Marine - light-
ing up a Chesterfield. The copy
says: "Ask any Chesterfield
smoker why he smokes them and
he'll probably say: 'I just like
them better . . . that's all.' Of
course, the reason he likes them
better is their milder, better taste."
