The dynamic growth of• the Bnai Brith, the many and varied vital causes which it serves, the record of its achievement, and its 1 937 role in the drama of American Jewish history are effectively mir- rored in "This Is Bnai Brith," a book of facts edited by Bernard Postal, national publicity of Bnai Brith (Editor's note — excerpts from the book "This is Bnai Brith will appear in successive issues as a part of Know Bnai Brith.) Mr. McLean could not forsee the course of the war. for about four years later Lee surrendered to Grant at the McLeans' new home in Appomattox. In this present war we have sent men and machines to every part of the world. Our leaders tell us we will not only start a second front but many fronts. that we must keep hitting our enemies blow after blow until they are all de- feated. We know we won't stop as long as our enemies can still fight. We don't know what we may be called on to do, how much we may have to endure. We don't know where the end may come, but we must be strong enough to make the end in our favor. Brave men with sick bodies can do little but brave men with sound bodies can't be stopped. Bay City Notes The membership enrollment committee of the United Hebrew Schools had its first meeting at the home of Rudolph Zuieback, the president of the schools. The meeting was opened by Aaron A. Silberblatt, chairman. The guest speaker was Isidore Sobeloff, ex- ecutive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation. Other brief talks were delivered by Dr. A. E. Bernstein, associate chairman, and Harry Cohen. It was announced by the pres- ident, Rudolph Zuieback, that the goal this year is set at 500 new members. This time it is not just an arbitrary goal. This number was set with a purpose—"to hon- or Mr. Silberblatt, the chairman of the 1942 Membership Enroll- ment Committee who is now cel- ebrating his fiftieth birthday an- niversary and present in his name 500 new members to the United Hebrew Schools of Detroit." Mr. Silberblatt has been connected with the Hebrew Schools for many years as a member of the Board of Directors, and as chair- man of various committees. He hs especially shown a keen inter- est in the annual membership project in which he was always extremely successful, generally working hand in hand with his faithful and loyal associate, Dr. A. E. Bernstein. This tribute of raising 500 members in his honor is therefore a most fitting and timely tribute. The meeting ended with a social arranged by the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Zuieback. The following were present: Rudolph Zuieback, Aaron A. Sil- berblatt, Dr. A. E. Bernstein, Julius Berman, Herman D. Bor- aks, Harry Cohen, Joseph B. Col- ten, Harry Davidoff, Abraham DeRoven, Morris Fishman, Philip J. Gilbert, H.
