Palestine Bnai Brith Takes Stock

EDITOR'S NOTE: Justice Gad Frumkin, member of the Supreme
Court of Palestine, who has just been elected president of Bnai
Brith in Palestine to succeed the late Prof. David Yellin. world-
famous scholar and leader of the Yishuv, outlines the role
which Bnai Brith is destined to play in the future development
of Eretz Israel.

a grand lodge, which is so closely
affiliated with that great family
of Bnai Brith brothers who have
for a century knitted together in
a strong bond of brotherhood
the various sections of our peo-
ple throughout their dispersion.
But that honor imposes obli-
gations upon its recipient. The
mandate given to the grand pres-
ident is not conferred on him in
order that he may wield author-
ity, For he is merely the brother
eration of all the lodges, their
brothers and sisters.
In addition to the normal
functions of any Bnai Brith
lodge, such as, on the domestic
front, the cultivation of broth-
erhood and mutual help between
all members and, on the external
front, the elucidation of its ideals
to, and the exercise of its good
influence over the community
within which it is active, there
are very special tasks awaiting
the Palestinian lodges if they
are to discharge their own spe-
cial mission within the Yishuv.
They could serve, once harnessed
and equipped, as a healing fac-
tor in the community represent-
ing different currents of opinion

are the common concern of the
community as a whole and could,
therefore, be tackled only by
