Ben F. Goldman Named

Battle Creek Bnai
Brith Holds Dinner

The Meyer J. Franklin Lodge
of the B'nai B'rith of Battle
Creek, gave another of its per
iodic sendoff dinners on Thursday
night Sept. 3 at the Post Tavern,
to four of its members: Bernard
Sarat, Max Konigsberg, Morris
Stulberg and Leonard Green, who
are leaving to become a part of
the armed forces. Gifts consisting
of traveling kits were presented
to the departing young men.
Testimonial speeches of fare-
well were made by Herbert Sil-
ver, who acted as toastmaster,
Sam Konigsberg, Max Stulberg
and Sam Weiss. Rabbi William
B. Silverman of the Battle Creek
Temple Beth El gave the invoca-
tion and his blessing. During the
course of the dinner, mention
was made of the rapidly dimin-
ishing membership in the B'nai
, B'rith resulting from induction
into the army. At the present
time 14 of the 62 members have
become a part of the armed
forces, respectively:
Lt. Sam Alpiner, Capt. Jos.
Levy, Lt. Richard Franklin, Pvt.
Fred Weiss, Pvt. Harvey Simrod,
Lt. Kops. Pvt. Saul Shapiro, Pve.

Robert Jaffe, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Morris Jaffe. again was the
recipient of a scholarship at the
U. of M. this year, having re-
ceived one last year upon com-
pleting his studies at Central
High School.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Tonkin and
(laughter, Sandra, of Lansing
spent the holiday weekend with
friends in this city.
Guests at the J. C. Hirschfield
home over the weekend, included
his son, Robert, who is home
from Dartmouth for ten days,
and Mr. and Mrs. R. Levy and
son, and their father, Mr. Men-
delson of Muskegon, Mich. While
here they were present at the
unveiling of Mrs. J. C. Hirsch-
field's tombstone on Sunday.
Weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs. H. F. .Anthony were their
sisters, the Misses Harriett, Rose
and Helen Rosenberg of Detroit.
Holiday services at the Temple
will begin at 8:30 on Friday
night, and at the same time at
Temple Abraham.
