Committee of the Jewish Welfare
Board and are plantwd each week
by two of the League's affiliates.
Hostesses are a specified number

Shortly before 10 o'clock the
servicemen and hostesses came in-

there had been dancing and games

Mussolini Orders Purge of
Party Members Because
They are Pro-Jewish

ISTANBUL ( WNS) — T!
purge of 60,000 members of
Lill' Fascist Party in Italy was
ordered by Premier Mussolini
on the ground that the dis-
missed functionaries constituted
a pro-Jewish "bloc" which sab-
otaged ant i-Jewish legislation.
according to reports received
here.
Despite repeated warnings by
tite Fascist Party, it was t
ported, thousands
thousands of minor offi-
cials and patty members con-
tinued their friendships with
Jews and failed to report their
Je %visit friends and neighbors
alleged violation of the
harsh anti-Jewish laws which
were introduced in Italy by II
Duce at the insistence of senior
partner Hitler.
The purge cam e shortly after
Roberto Farinacci, high Fascist
official. demanded t hat the party
be cleansed of all pro-Jewish
elements. Farinacci expressed
dissatisfaction with the progress
of the anti-Jewish campaign and
warned that drastic steps would
be taken against "Jewish sy -
pa t Ill . / A. 1'S." Many of the purged
party members were married to
Jewish women whom they re-
fused to divorce, the report said.

memorandum outlining how food
and medical supplies can be ship-

ped to the starving Jews in the
Polish ghettos without aiding the
Nazis has been transmitted to the
State Department in Washington
by Lowell C. Pinkerton, American
Consul-General in Palestine, it
was disclosed here.

The plan was submitted to Mr.
Pinkerton by the Representation
of Polish Jews here, one of the
groups art ively campaigning for
United Nations aid to Polish
Jewry. Earlier the Representa-
tion of Polish Jews had appealed
directly to President Roosevelt and
had been informed that the Unit-
ed States Government would give
sympathetic consideration to to
concrete proposal which would in
no way aid the enemy.

A W'ashington communication
to the Representation of Polish
Jews stated that the question of
sending supplies to areas where
suffering exists as a result of the
war, is receiving sympathetic con-
sideration by the Government."
The note added that "if means
can be found to assist the civic
population in the conquered Euro-
pean countries without having
such assistance inure to the bene-
fit of the Axis Powers, you may
be assured that proposals of this
character will receive sympathetic
consideration by t he Government
of the United States."

It was under. tood here that
the memorandum transmitted to
the U.S. State Department pro-
posed that the American Red
Cross, following an agreement
with the I nterna thm a I Red Cross,
be placed in full charge of the
"mercy" shipments to the Polish
ghettos.
