THE ARTS
"The Pilot of Our Life-Boat"
is the title of an impressive
painting by Alexander Berth .. .
It shows President Roosevelt as
a determined, weatherbeaten-sea-
man piloting to safety 16 repre-
sentative types of the United
Nations . . . Among them is a
pious Jew, with a prayer shawl
over his head, reading his pray-
erbook . . Irving Berlin's show
"This Is the Army" is expected
to raise over a million dollars
for Army Emergency Relief .. .
Paramount, which has bought
the screen rights, is donating all
the profits of the picture to the
relief organization . . . And Ber-
lin himself and Mark Sandrich
are going to make a picture
without salary . . . Remember
when Dinah Shore made her
bow before a nationwide radio
audience as the guest artist on
Eddie Cantor's program? . . .
Well, turn about being fair play,
Dinah recently had Eddie as
guest artist on her air show .. .
