BESSIE BENDER will he the guest of the Wom- en's League of Young Israel at a meeting to be held Monday night, May 18, at the Yeshiva Beth Yehuda, Dexter at Cort- land. The guest will also ad- dress a special luncheon ten- dered in her honor by the Wom- en's Branch of the Michigan Synagogue Conference. Mrs. Bender is a product of Beth Jacob, the movement founded by the late Sarah Schnirer, for the religious edu- cation of Jewish girls. Before the war the movement main- tained a chain of schools in Po- land, England, Switzerland and Palestine. In recent years this religious movement has come to America where a few Beth Jacob schools have been estab- lished in New York. Mrs. Ben- der is the authoress of numerous articles on the religious educa- tion of girls and on padagogy. Three years ago Mrs. Bender arrived in this country, where she immediately became active in the American Beth Jacob movement, and now is one of the heads of the Beth Jacob Teachers Seminary of America in New York, whose object it is to train young women as teach- ers of religious girls' schools. Mrs. Bender will spend about a week in Detroit in the interest of the movement.•; WOMEN'S AID The Women's Aid for Service Men will hold a meeting Tuesday, May 19, at 16141 La Salle.
