MRS. BESSIE BENDER

will he the guest of the Wom-
en's League of Young Israel at
a meeting to be held Monday
night, May 18, at the Yeshiva
Beth Yehuda, Dexter at Cort-
land. The guest will also ad-
dress a special luncheon ten-
dered in her honor by the Wom-
en's Branch of the Michigan
Synagogue Conference.
Mrs. Bender is a product of
Beth Jacob, the movement
founded by the late Sarah
Schnirer, for the religious edu-
cation of Jewish girls. Before
the war the movement main-
tained a chain of schools in Po-
land, England, Switzerland and
Palestine. In recent years this
religious movement has come to
America where a few Beth
Jacob schools have been estab-
lished in New York. Mrs. Ben-
der is the authoress of numerous
articles on the religious educa-
tion of girls and on padagogy.
Three years ago Mrs. Bender
arrived in this country, where
she immediately became active
in the American Beth Jacob
movement, and now is one of
the heads of the Beth Jacob
Teachers Seminary of America
in New York, whose object it is
to train young women as teach-
ers of religious girls' schools.
Mrs. Bender will spend about
a week in Detroit in the interest
of the movement.•;

The Women's Aid for Service
Men will hold a meeting Tuesday,

Aid Elects Its Officers

are about 700,000 Polish Jews in
Russ4 the majority of -them liv-
ing in Siberia in desperate need
of clothing. Two ship loads of
clothing , have already reached
Russia. The federation hopes to
send a third soon.
The members of the federation
will visit the many organizations
within the next few weeks to en-
list the 'r aid. Send or bring your
contributions to the federation of-

to pick up wour contribution. The
office is open Sundays from 11.00
to 2:00 and week days from 6:00

At the meeting of the Ameri-
can Federation of Polish Jews
and the Ezra Sisterhood held on
May 10 it was decided to begin a
drive for clothes, food and medi-
cal supplies for the Polish Jews
in Russia.
Harry Weinberg, secretary of
the Detroit district of the fed-
eration, presided at the meeting,
and Benjamin Graubert, who re-
cently arrived in Detroit to take
over the important position of
executive director, was guest
speaker. Ile stated that there

Pisgah Juniors Hostesses
To Mothers at Supper

Members of the Pisgah Chap-
' ter of the Women's Auxiliary
of Junior B'nai B'rith enter-
tained their mothers at a supper
at the Wilshire Hotel, Wednes-
day night, May 3. Each mother
was presented with a corsage of
red carnations and small potted
plants marked the mothers places
at the table.
After supper the mothers wit-
nessed the installation of new
officers and the "crowning" of
the "queen." Miss Charlotte
Cant of the Women's Auxiliary
officiated at the ceremonies.
The girls who were installed
are: President, Pauline Gorman ;
first, second and third vice presi-
dents, respectively, Florence
Freedman, Helen Avrushin and
Ruth Weiss; financial secretary,
Edith Feingold. Recording sec-
retary is Tillie Feinbloom ; cor-
responding secretary, Alice Sha-
Pero and Marian Cohen; treas-
urer, Belle Hauptman; historian,
Shirley Fleisher; conductress,
Gail Fishman ; sentinel, Dorothy
Freedland, and counsellor, Lillian
Lash,
