petition for Pianists in Vienna.
In 1934 he headed the piano
class of the Music College of
Tel Aviv, Palestine.
With compositions for almost
every instrument, Mr. Chajes
has been honored by having his
works played by Mischa Elman,
Pablo Casals and artists of like
calibre. his Cantata, the "142nd
Psalm" for solo, chorus and
orchestra, was performed by
Hugh Ross, conductor of the
New York Schola Cantorum at
the New York World's Fair.
The orchestra, under the
baton of Valter Poole, will . pre-
sent the "Egmont Overture"
and the "Seventh Symphony" in
the all-Beethoven program Tues-
day evening.
Playing to overflow audiences
at each of the four previous
concerts in the Center's spring
series, Valter Poole and his
WPA Symphony Orchestra have
proved popular guests at the
Center. Although no admission
is charged, war stamps and
bonds are on sale in the Center
lobby preceding the concerts. It
is expected that $5,000 worth
of stamps and bonds will have
been sold when the baton is
raised for the concluding per-
formance April 21. The concert
is- scheduled to begin at 8:30.
