U. J. A. RESCUE FRONT PART OF WORLD DEMOCRATIC FRONT
Rabbi Wolf Gold, chairman of
World Mizrachi Executive, ad-
dressed a large meeting Monday
night, March 16, at the Yeshivah
Beth Yehudah, Cortland at Dex-
ter. Rabbi Gold an orator of
world renown, reached the heights
when he likened the bloodshed,
pain and suffering of the world
today with a woman in labor
and said "When the moment is
darkest, when the pain is seem-
ingly beyond enurance, even then
she is bringing forth her greatest
creation. And as the world goes
through the valley of the shadow
of death, it too will emerge a
finer, a better a more glorious
place to live in." But he warned
the Jew that unless he returned
to the teachings of his fathers,
unless he returned to the Torah
and observed his traditions and
instilled them in his children, all
of the shame, misery and suffer-
ing of the Jew today will have
been in vain.
Rabbi Gold also praised Presi-
dent Franklin D. Roosevelt for
his great humanitarianism and
said that we were blessed to have
him as our leader in these trying
times, but condemned the leaders
of Great Britain for permitting
the disaster of the Struma to
take place and he warned the
Jews not to bury their heads
ostrich-like and pretend that
nothing is happening.
Although the mission of the
Jew in life is to promote peace,
give charity and perform Mitz-
vahs, he said that when the time
comes it is our duty to fight for
a worthy cause even as David
did—David the musician, the poet,
whose hands were made to play
the lyre, but when the time came,
he did not hesitate to slay his
enemies, the enemies of the Jews.
Rabbi Gold was introduced by
Irving Schlussel, president-elect
of the Mizrachi Organization of
Detroit, who made an appeal for
members. Rabbi Lazar Eichen-
stein, executive field secretary of
the Mizrachi Organization of
America spoke on the need of
the Mizrachi movement. He stated
that the Mizrachi is the salesman
of the Torah and Judaism; it
keeps alive the flame of Judaism.
His talk was greatly embellished
with numerous personal experi-
ences and anecdotes relating to
his sojourn in Austria from
whence he came.
