Since Dec. 20, 1941, 110,000 new claims per week have been received by the Michigan Unemployment Com- pensation Commission. This is only the beginning evidence of large scale layoffs. Unless Michi- gan's defense employment can be nearly doubled from its present total of about 290,000, the state will be faced, in the very near future, with an extremely large volume of unemployment. The Jewish Vocational Service finds that a large number of the available supply of workers do not possess the types of skills demanded by employers. The Jew- ish Vocational Service's active file of non-working applicants is again rising, despite numerous employer orders. When available See VOCATIONS—Page 12 Lecture at Jew- ish Center Dr. Salo W.
