Trees Planted in
Palestine Forests

January 9, 1942

DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and the legal Chronicle

NEW YORK (Religious News
Service)—There were few "overt
acts" of religious or racial preju-
p dice in America during 1941, the
American Civil Liberties Union
declared here in releasing its an-
nual review of civil liberties.
The entire year, said the re-
view, was marked by an "encour-
aging public tolerance."
"Secret organizations like the
Silver Shirts and the Ku Klux
Klan and anti-alien feeling so
diminished," commented the sur-
vey, "that even in Congress the
`Hobbs concentration camp' bill,
to intern aliens who could not
be deported, was defeated. Even
the outbreak of the war brought
no outburst of spy hunting or
vigilantism."
