Dr. Myers to Address
Beth El College of
Jewish Studies Monday

Give Most Liberally to the Red Cross!

Work Most Ardently For the Red Cross!

Say "YES"

ED CRO.

Dr. Charles Haven Myers will
be the second speaker at the
Beth El College of Jewish Studies
in the course "Why I Am What
I Am" on Monday, Jan. 12, at
9 p. m. His subject will be "Why
I am a Protestant."
Dr. Myers is one of the out-
standing clergymen in the cty
and is well-known as a lecturer
and a writer. He holds B.A.
and M.A. degrees from Iowa-
Wesleyan College, a B.D. de-
gree from Drew Theological Sem-
inary, and a D.D. from the Uni-
versity of Chattanooga. Since
1933, he has been the minister

Bible Influences
On Social Outlook

"To arouse the religious im-
pulses and the ethical tendencies
of our men and women is one
of the primary functions of our
adult educational activity," Dr.
Emanuel Gamoran writes in the
editor's introduction to Dr. Abra-
ham Cronbach's "The Bible and
Our Social Outlook," just pub-
lished by the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations.
An avowed pacifist, Prof. Cron-
bach is prominent in the field in
which he teaches at Hebrew Union
College in Cincinnati — social
studies. Thus, his approach to
the hopes and plight of labor,
the questions of single tax, civil
liberties, benevolence, poverty and
wealth, housing, as covered among
a hundred other subjects in this
hook, have an unusually interest-
ing approach from the standpoint
of Jewish traditions and the Bible.
Dr. Cronbach deals with issues
of unemployment, refugees, care
of the aged, Socialism, freedom
of speech, etc. He even brings
in the problems of the Negro. He
points out that prominent Jews
have come to the aid of the
Negroes, that rabbis have de-
fended their position and that the
Rosenwald funds have contributed
towards the advancement of the
status of the colored people.
"The Bible and Our Social
Outlook" is a most interesting
study of the subject covered in
Biblical lore that have relation
to our modern living. Dr. Cron-
bach's book is a good textbook
for schools, and it also makes
good reading for the average lay-
man.
Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple Is-
rael, Detroit, is one of the men
to whom indebtedness for assist-
ance in the preparation of the
t volume is acknowledged by the
tuthor.

Biggest news of the year should
be that strange person, the presi-
dent of Yankton College of Yank-
ton, South Dakota, who is eagerly
searching for Jewish students.
But before rushing to the insti-
tution, students should note that
Yankton has no professional
schools. Otherwise it's a place
where they truly welcome the kind
of people Hitler doesn't like.
