Mr. Warburg Reports
In a report to the meeting,

Mr. Warburg pointed out that
J. D. C. had already put into op-
eration long prepared plans to
insure that its relief work would
not be abruptly and seriously
curtailed by the new emergency.
He reported on the appropriation
of $1,500,000 by the executive
committee for this purpose, on
the basis of which local Jewish
committees overseas were noti-
fied that they might borrow from
local sources to carry on their
work with the assurance that the
J. D. C. will reimburse the loans
when that can be done without
aiding the enemy.
This procedure, following the
pattern set during the first World
War, when the J. D. C. operated
under identical conditions, as-
sures the continuation of emer-
gency aid in territories cut off
from communication with the J.
D. C., Mr. Warburg pointed out.
In areas such as unoccupied
France, Switzerland, Turkey,
North Africa and elsewhere, J.
D. C. programs are continuing
as before, Mr. Warburg said,
while in Central and South
America, where the J. D. C. has
been working in 18 countries, a
considerable expansion of its
work is contemplated.
In addition, he said, the or-
ganization now faces large new
responsibilities, notably in Rus-
sia, where 500,000 Polish Jews,
evacuated to Siberia, urgently
need American help. Plans for
work in Russia have already
been drawn, Mr. Warburg stated,
and the J. D. C. is prepared to
make an initial grant of $100,-
000.

In mid December the National

Refugee Service will occupy this entire

building at 139 Centre Street, New York City. Moving will begin on

Thursday evening, December 18th. The agency will be ready for com-
plete service at the new address on Monday morning, December 22nd.
The new quarters will provide the refugee aid agency with needed
additional space, and have been secured at an extremely favorable
rental despite the general rise in rent costs. The layout of the offices
has been carefully planned to give effective and efficient service to the
nearly 5,000 people a week who visit the agency. One floor of the nine-
story building will be occupied by the American Committee for Chris-
tian Refugees, the American Friends Service Committee, Self-Help for
Emigres, and certain services of the New York Section of the National
Council of Jewish Women—making the building an emigre aid center.

The total of all money pledges
to the second annual donor lunch-
eon of Pisgah Auxiliary No. 122
of Bnai Brith, that came in after
war was declared by this coun-
try, will be sent to Washington
for defense.
The anouncement was made
Tuesday, Dec. 16, to more than
800 auxiliary members and their
guests at the luncheon in the
Masonic Temple by Mrs. Leonard
Sims, general chairman for the
donor.
Mrs. Saul Roseman, president
of the auxiliary, thanked the
members for their loyal efforts
and Mrs. Sims told them that
with the raising of their annual
philanthropic fund, "our work
has only just begun," in view of
the war emergency.
Proceeds of the luncheon helps
support Hillel Foundation at Ann
Arbor, Bellefaire Orphans Home,
a social service bureau at the
Mayo Clinic, an emergency re,
lief fund for victims of catas-
trophe of every race and creed,
and the Leo N. Levi Memorial
Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark.
Jeanne Welty of New York ap-
peared in a monodrama of her
own conception.
M r s. Benjamin Samuels of
Chicago, president of Women's
District Grand Lodge No. 6, was
the speaker at the luncheon at
which Rabbi Joshua Sperka of-
fered the benediction.
This second annual donor
luncheon was dedicated to Frank-
-
lin Delano Roosevelt. -
