Jews to Be Denied Mitzvahs If
War Regulations Evaded

LONDON. (JPS)—Any Jew of-
fending against the British war
regulations will be denied mitz-
vahs of any kind by the syna-
gogues of Leeds, it was decided
by the Leeds Jewish community,
which deviated from a 100-year-
old practice against such "sanc-
tions".
Rabbi Isaac Cohen, in endorsing
the community's decision, said
that "men and women who by
their selfish longing for personal
gain jeopardize the future of the
entire Jewish people are worthy
of no sympathy from fellow
Jews; rather they merit scorn and
contempt."

Central Conference Issues Pro-
gram for World Recon-
struction

ST. LOUIS (JPS) — The
broad principles of sound and
lasting world reconstruction,
based on religious faith and bol-
stered by political and economic
international co-operation, are
set forth in a program adopted
by the Central Conference of
American Rabbis and now issued
under the auspices of its Com-
mission on Justice and Peace,
headed by Rabbi Ferdinand M.
Isserman of this city.
Aimed to provide a Jewish
"declaration of faith" as broad
in scope as the "Malvern Dec-
laration" of the Christian reli-
gious world, the program em-
phasizez that "Judaism is a uni-
versal faith whose spiritual mes-
