Y., has been successful in the achievement of its two major aims: To acquaint American ewry with the importance and work of these institutions and to coordinate and increase the aid raised here for them. Particular attention was paid by the Federated Counc . 1 to the various Welfare Funds and Fed- erations, whom it supplied with ample information about the work of the 133 institutions, which are not only a spiritual bastion of the Yishuv, but also a very vital eco- nomic factor. These institutions with tens of thousands dependent upon them, it was pointed out, are now passing through a very serious crisis as a result of the war which closed all of their former sources of income, except the United States. This effort on the part of the Federated Council has been high- ly appreciated by the leaders of the various Welfare Funds, who were long craving for such a responsible body as the Feder- ated Council with whom they could take up the case of all these institutions that need aid and allocate for them one lump At Congregation Shaarey Ze- dek services on Saturday morning, special prayers are said for the health of the president and for a speedy victory in the war against the Axis.
