Be Observed Friday

The fourth in a series of Fri-
day evening programs at Congre-
gation Beth Tefilo Emanuel, on
Nov. 28, will be devoted to the
1,000th anniversary of the death
of Saadia Gaon, the great medi-
eval Jewish religious leader, phil-
osopher and Bible commentator.
The lecture, given by Rabbi M. J.
Wohlgelernter, will trace the in-
fluence of Saadia's dealings since
the time of his death in 944.
Cantor Hyman Schulsinger will
chant Sabbath hymns at 8:30
p. m., and a social hour will be
sponsored by the Sisterhood fol-
lowing the address.

Jewish Juniors. The Maneuvers
Dance, held Sunday, at the Com-
munity Center, drew an attend-
ance of over 300. Selfridge Field,
Fort Custer, Fort Wayne, Grosse
Isle aval Training Center, Naval
Reserve, the U. S. Marines, the
U. S. Coast Guard and the U. S.
Navy Recruiting Station were
represented.

As its contribution to the na-
tional observance of "Jewish
Book Week; Nov. 23-30," the
Detroit Jewish Community Cen-
ter, co-operating with the Yid-
dish Culture Section of the Jew-
ish Community Center, will pre-
sent a program devoted to Yid-
dish literature and music, Sun-
day, Nov. 23, at 8:30 p. m.
Highlighting the evening in the
Center auditorium will be an ad-
dress, "The Romance of Hebrew
Literature," by Prof. Simeon
Halkin, of the College of Jewish,
Studies of Chicago.
