Their Loyalty
Former Governor Chase S. Os-
born this week made some point-
ed remarks with 'reference to
the Lindbergh outburst and the
reaction of Jews. In a statement
to The Detroit Jewish Chronicle
Mr. .Osborn writes:
"Recently I was entertained
and educated by an unusual nr-
tide in The Detroit Jewish
Chronicle by Judah Gileadi. Lila
so many other Jews, Mr. Gileadi
takes too seriously the abuse of
the Jews by so many of the
common Iferd, who wish to make
of them scapegoats when they
themselves belong in that class.
Among other things, Mr. Gilead'
says: It has always been (.;ty
for demagogues to roast the
Jews. The relative defenseless-
ness of the Jewish minorities in
each country has made them a
convenient target all through
history.
"At least Mr. Gileadi talks
that way. He forgets that the
civilization, whatever there is of
it, of the earth came from the
Jews. Moses was a Jew. And so
was Solomon, the Wise, who even
tamed the Queen of Sheba. One
could go through history and
nick out model Jews from the
beginning of human relations.
They were leaders in all walks
of life. Agur, the son of Jakeh,
taught Ithiel and Ucal, accord-
ing to Proverbs chapter 30. Their
philosophy is mine to this day,
and could be adopted by all hu-
n tubieings of every race and

stratum.
"It always seems to me that
the Jews are too sensitive. By
being so they weaken their po-
sition. The fact is, they do not
need any defense whatsoever.
"All they have to do is to obey
the law and be good citizens. In
this respect, the great majority
of Jews are models,"
Comment upon Mr. Osborn's
statement will be found in an
editorial in this issue of The
Chronicle.
