Lacey, Candidate for Coun-
cil, Favors A Rapid
Transit System
Ernest J. Lacey, candidate
for the Common Council, in a
statement just issued, said:
"What our Common Council
neeeds is restoring of confidence
in it by the election of men
whose honesty and integrity are
unquestioned. All candidates for
the office of Common Council
must and should pledge to up-
hold and maintain the principle
that 'a public office is a public
trust.' This should be the first
qualification for this office.
"What Detroit also needs at
the present time is a thorough-
going, well organized, rapid tran-
sit system to better facilitate
the flow of traffic and to de-
crease the appallingly large num-
ber of accidents on our streets,
and although money has been
made available for this and other
public projects by the federal
authorities in Washington, the
Common Council has not taken
the initiative to obtain it for De-
troit. This condition should be
corrected without delay."
Mr. Lacey has been in public
service in the City of Detroit
for 15 years, the last four and
one-half years of which have
been as clerk to Circuit Judge
Homer Ferguson. He has been
Deputy Clerk of the Circuit
Court for eight years and was
for seven years with the Engin-
eering Department of the Water
Board. He is how secretary of
the 15th Congressional District
Democratic organization and is
a member of the Michigan Demo-
cratic State Central Committee.
He has been associated with Con-
gressman John D. Dingell since
the latter's first term in office.

MICHIGAN -- Suppressed in
500 theaters throughout the na-
tion, Orsen Welles' sensational
production "Citizen Kane", the
love story Hollywood said no
one dared film, is on the Michi-
gan screen. Center of a raging
controversy since the first pre-
view of "Kane" on the coast
early in the year brought out
the fact that Orson Welles, the
boy wonder, was again treading
on dangerous ground, the pic-
ture has been purchased in some
cities only for the purpose of
shelving it. But Detroit will see
it and at the Michigan, on the
same program with a gay com-
edy romance "West Point Wid-
ow" starring Anne Shirley, Rich-
