ing the investigation as • a front
to forward their isolationist
views, was reflected in the ad-
mission of Senator Bennet Clark
of Missouri, who admitted that
he had seen but few of the
movies which he labelled as
"war-mongering".
The note of warning that Sen-
ator Nye had sounded was echoed
by the Missouri legislator, who
too envisaged post-war hatred.
"If this country goes to war and
if a million men pour out their
blood on the battlefields of the
world, then when it is all over
and America is looking around
for the men responsible for this
infamy and the roll of the guilty
is called, the anmes of the men
who rule this industry must
stand high on the list before
the „bar of public opinion in
that angry America which will
inevitably follow the war." He
then went on to name Nicholas
Schenck, Warner Brothers and
Darryl Zanuck, as though he were
reading a carbon-copy of Nye's
testimony. The industry is dom-
