Union Emphasis on JeWs as "Religion" YOUNG WOMEN'S MIZRACHI MRS. HARRY SHUMAN, Pres. • Extends Best Wishes to the entire community for a Year of Good Health, Abundant Happiness, CINCINNATI (JPS) — In a widely broadcast appeal for sup- port, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations is urging American Jews to emphasize their position as a "religious group" in this country. "We are learning that where- as labor unions, charities, lod- ges, etc., etc. are fine things, they carry sinister implications when they monopolize the label 'Jew' before the community," Adolph Rosenberg, Chairman of the Union's Board, declares in a statement of the Union's posi- tion. "Distressing problems are facing the Jewish community of America because of the deterior- ation of emphasis on our position in American life as a religious group." Contentment and Prosperity. We enjoy ourselves only in our work, our doing; and our best doing is our best enjoy- ment.—Jacobi.
