My first stop was Fort Dix,
It is three weeks since I was N, J. There we bunked in win-
terized tents. A winterized tent
is one that has four feet high
board walls, is completely cov-

It's surprising how cozy that
stove kept our tent, but early in
the morning you've got to learn
how to take the cold.
At Dix we ate out of mess-
kits, which we had to wash our-
selves, but here at Fort Bragg,
which is more beautiful than any

takes turns waiting on tables, but
his turn comes around only about
three times a year. I suppose since
you expect to be inducted soon
yourself, you would like to hear
more about the food situation.

Well, it's not the type of food
you get at home and you have
to develop a taste for it; let me
put it this way. When you order
food in a restaurant you are
pleasing your stomach. The army

for three weeks in advance we

handle revolvers. No accidents
can occur after the training we
received.
Most of our training at present
is concerned with methods of pro-

tecting ourselves. That's one thing
for which we selectees are grate-
ful. We know that if we should
have had the hard luck to be
forced into a war, this time we'll
know how to take care of our-
selves.
The non-commissioned officers
are nothing like what the movies
would have you believe them to
be. They're a fine group of men,
never too busy to listen to your
troubles, always ready to help
you out of difficulty, and never
ridiculing you for a mistake. I
suppose there are exceptions, but
so far I haven't come across any.
