SEASONS GREETINGS TO ALL

Don't Suffer

BY THE HON. JOHN D. DINGELL
Member of Congress

MIKE FALK

May I express my greetings and best wishes to my
countless Jewish friends and join them spiritually in
transmitting a prayer to the throne of Almighty God
that in this New Year we shall witness the destruction
of Nazi tyranny, the establishment of universal peace
and good will to all mankind, and that bigotry and in-
tolerance shall be uprotted and destroyed throughout
the entire world.

WASHINGTON (JPS) —Bring-
ing into the open the often-
whispered anti-Semitic charges
which have been hurled at movie
executives, Wendell L. Willkie,
as counsel for the motion-picture
producers, declared in Washing-
ton this week that the probe of
the movies under the Chairman-
ship of Senator D. Worth Clark
of Idaho was seeking to "divide
the American people into dis-
cordant, racial and religious
groups in order to disunite them
over the United States foreign
policy.
"If the (Senate investigating)
committee feels that the racial,
geographical background of
American citizens is a condition
to be investigated, there is no
need of the investigation," de-
clared Wendell Willkie in a pub-
lic letter to Senator D. Worth
Clark.
"We frankly state that in the
motion-picture industry there are
in positions both prominent and
inconspicuous both Nordics and
non-Nordics, Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics, native
and foreign born.
"This industry demonstrates that
neither race, creed nor geo-
graphic origin is an essential
qualification to participation in
American businessT."
Willkie's forthright statement
was taken to counter recent
charges by Senator Nye and
other isolationists that the in-
dustry is dominated by men who
were born abroad. Nye's charge,
a bold attack on Jewish leaders
of the business, was Willkie's
springboard for a counterblow as
the investigation was launched.

New Anti-Semitic Sheet

WASHINGTON (JPS) — Dis-
tributed to the general press this
week was "The Roll Call", a
new anti-Semitic newspaper. Op-
erating from a Post Office box
number in Indianapolis, the
"Roll Call" is, according to
sources in the Department of
Justice, the creation of William
Dudley Pelley, Ameircan Fascist
and notorious anti-Semite.
The leading editorial of this
first issue of the "Roll Call" Is
entitled "The Jews Have Lost
the War." Throughout the jour-
nal are such choice adjectives
as "Kosherveltians", "Russian-
born manipulators" and other
terms sprayed with this venom.

If the Wampas, the association
of movie press agents, still func-
tioned, they would consider Judy
17-year-old addition to
the Republic Pictures players,
or nomination to the ranks of,
"starlets". Her first picture will be
"Marines on Parade", which will
mark the climax of Judy's thea-
ter work, which has been going
on since she appeared in a musi-
cal show at the age of 6.
With a five-year contract in
the offing, she can catch her
breath to review her career. The
daughter of Jack Kaufman, who
used to be one of the "Kauf-
man Brothers", vaudeville song
and dance team. she was part of
show life from the earliest time
she can remember. After doing
various singing chores, she be-
came one of the members of the
cast of "Babes in Arms" several
years ago. For a year she has
been singing with Ray Heather-
ton. It was with her singing 00
New York's Biltmore roof th.it
she attracted the attention of a
movie scout.
Having reached her senior year
in high school, she is transferring
her report card to Hollywood,
where her parents hope she will
complete her education while she
goes places with her smile, her
vivacity and singing and acting
ability.
