Jewish Congress Asks Immediate Action to
Assure Justice for the Jew

28, it was announced by Dr.
Stephen S. Wise, president of
the American Jewish Congress.
The conference, scheduled to be
held in Washington, was trans-
ferred to Baltimore owing to
lack of facilities in Washington,
and the priority for defense
workers.
The Inter-American J e w i s h
Conference, which has been ar-
ranged with the sympathetic con-
sent of the State Department
of the United States, will bring
together representatives from the
princimil Central, South and
North American countries for
discussion of the following three-
fold program :
I. In the spirit of President
Roosevelt's "Good Neighbor" pol-
icy, supported and adopted by
the Latin American Republics,
we aim to bring about closer
contact and fuller cooperation
between the Jewish communities
of the Western Hemisphere, to
the end that each community
may be completely integrated,
through the life of its own coun-
try, into that American way of
life common to all nations of
the American continents.
II. To consider and coordi-
nate methods of bringing mate-
rial and moral help to Jewish
victims of the European tragedy.
III. To unite all American
Jewish communities in their ef-
fort to facilitate the establish-
ment of the Jewish National
Home in Palestine.
It is expected that a number
of important Government offi-
cials will participate in the de-
liberations.

May the New Year 5702 bring to you
and yours the fullest of life's blessings,

rights, but every possibility of
employment. Under. these de-
crees, the Vichy Government
orders Jews removed from every
department of public service and
virtually every activity in the
fields of commerce, industry and
agriculture.
Excoriating the Vichy govern-
ment, the resolution asserts that
"in enacting these decrees, the
men of Vichy have once again
committed treason against the
spirit of France at the behest of
their Nazi task masters."
"The Jewish people, however,"
says the resolution, "everywhere
reaffirms its faith in the French
nation, which though defeated re-
mains unconquered, and in the
day of victory and retribution
which will surely right the
wrongs that have been done."
The resolution points out that
Jews have served with honor,
have contributed to every field
of creative activity and fought
and died for France, "but no
Jew can be found on the list of
Frenchmen who have sold France
to the enemy and opened its
gates before or during the pres-
ent war to the flood tide of Hit-
lerism."

Ask Immediate Action

An. appeal to the leaders of
democratic opinion in the coun-
tries ranged against Nazi op-
pression to offer assurances now
that at the end of the war Jews
will be given an opportunity "in
fraternal collaboration with their
fellow victims of all races and
faiths, to rebuild their lives in
security, justice and honor," was
made by the American Jewish
Congress and the World Jewish
Congress.
Made public by Dr. Stephen
S. Wise, the head of both or-
ganizations, the appeal is sub-
joined to a resolution adopted
by the Executive Boards of both
organizations in connection with
the decrees adopted by the Vichy

JEWISH NEW YEAR GREET.
INGS FROM BRITISH WAR
RELIEF SOCIETY

Harold E. Stoll

There is • no evil we cannot
You need not tell all the truth,
unless to those who have a right face or fly from, but the con.
to know it all. But let all you sciousness of duty disregarded.
—Daniel 'Webster,
tell be truth. Horace Mann.

An expression of thanks to the
Jews of America for their "un-
deniably important part in sus-
taining the morale of the Brit-
ish people", upon the occasion
of the Jewish New Year, has
been sent to Dr. Israel Gold-
stein, chairman of the Jewish
Section, Interfaith Committee for
Aid to the Democracies, by Fred-
erick W.' Gehle, Chairman of the
Fund Raising Division of the
British War Relief Society. In
his letter, Mr. Gehle expresses
the hope that the New Year in
the Jewish calendar "may wit-
ness increasingly the pushing
back of the barbaric hordes
whose special fury has .been so
cruelly vented upon the Jewish
people".
The funds raised by the Jew-
ish Section of the British War
Relief Society have been used
to establish children's nursing
homes and mobile feeding can-
teens in England.
