NEW YORK (JPS)—In writ-
in• about the movie probe in his
widely syndicated column, West-
brook Pegler said in his Septem-
ber 13 column: "If the dominant
families of the trade were Ma-
sons or Catholics presumably they
too would be disqualified on the
ground that Masons and Catho-
lics as well as Jews have been
persecuted by the Nazi govern-
ment and therefore cannot be
innocent of bias."
In defending the anti-Nazi
pictures, Pegler explained: "There
is no dark, mysterous reason why
we have had no pro-Nazi films.
The reason is that in all the
record of Hitlerism there isn't
enough favorable material to
make a short."

Dail y News Bars Ed Sullivan
Column Denouncing
Senator Nye
NEW YORK (JPS) — The
Daily News, isolationist New
York tabloid which boasts of the
largest newspaper circulation in
the country, dropped Ed Sulli-
van's column of Sept. 11 because
the gossip columnist attacked
Senator Nye. Appearing in the
early edition of the News, Sulli-
van's piece condemned Nye's
tactics in the Senate's sub-com-
mittee probe of war propaganda
in the motion-picture industry.
Later editions of the News
dropped the critical column.'

Says Mother's Will Binds F.D.R.
To Fight for Jews
GENEVA (JPS) — "A moral
clause" in Sara Delano Roose-
velt's will has bound her son,
President Roosevelt, to "fight for
Israel," said the vituperative Ita-
lian press, in commenting on the
death of the President's mother.
The Fascist explanation is as
follows: "Roosevelt's mother died
recently, and she was called —
note it well — Sarah, a 100 per
cent Jewish name. Signor Dela-
no's sorrow was softened by a
large inheritance, but it was tied
up with a moral clause which
the son must fulfill — to fight
for Israel."

Happy New Year

What we have accomplished in the past has been
largely due to the loyalty and friendship of those
who entrusted their life insurance programs to us .
. . . And so we greet our faithful old friends, our
cherished new friends and those whose friendships
we will strive to deserve in the future.

The Dutch Still Don't Like
Streicher
LONDON (JPS)—To prove to
their Nazi conquerors that no
amount of cajolery or trickery
will make them see "The Eter-
nal Jew", the filthy anti-Semi-
tic picture of Streicher, the
Dutch people have devised a
new means of showing a dis-
pleasure, it is reported from
Holland by the Sunday Chronicle
here. According to the news-
paper, each time the picture is
flashed on the screen, the audi-
ence collectively turns its back
to the showing and remains in
that position until the reels have
been unwound. The attempts
of Nazis to show the picture ex-
tensively in Holland have met
with a wide boycott.

Deface Jewish Doctor's Offices
NEW YORK (JPS)—Vandal-
ism against the property of Jew-
ish doctors in the Medical Arts
Center Building here, interpreted
by a refugee physician as similar
to the first attacks made on Jews
in Germany, had police looking
for anti-Semitic culprits who left
a strange trail of hate.
In various offices of the 18-
story building the gold lettering
on the office of Jewish doctors
was changed. The "Mar" in the
name of Allan Margold was
erased to leave "gold". Dr. Dav-
id Sloane found the "e" and
the "s" erased, so that "loan"
remained. In the men's wash-
rooms on the 10th, 12th and
14th floors were such signs as
"Down with the Jews" and "Heil
Hitler".

Lemberg to Become "Levenstadt"
GENEVA (JPS) — The Ham-
burger FremdenbIaA reveals that
yet another city. is "destined to
ture and a citadel of German
aconomic life in the East". The
latest town to be so afflicted is
Lemberg, which is Ahortly to be
incorporated into the Reich and
r en a m e d "Levenstadt". "The
Jewish domination in the corn-
merce, indukry and culture of
Lemberg must be eliminated,"
the newspaper declares.
