Yeshiva College Opens Ex-
tension Courses in Pro-
gram of Adult Education

American and refugee scholars
of note have been appointed to
the faculty of the Yeshiva Col-
lege Extension Courses beginning
early in October, according to
an announcement by the Hon.
Samuel Levy, Chairman of Yes-
hiva College.
Mr. Levy pointed out that the
Yeshiva College has in the past
experimented in modest fashion
in the field of adult education.
Now, however, he points out, the
Extension Courses are to be a
permanent department of the In-
stitution which includes the Rab-
binical Seminary, the Teachers'
Institute, High School and Col-
lege.
The courses will be varied. In
the grouping titled Jewish Stud-
ies are included .courses in Bible,
Talmud, Hebrew Language, Heb-
rew Literature, Jewish Ethics and
Sociology of the Jews.
The general courses include
English, Spanish, Mathematics,
Psychology, Spech, Philosophy
and Science. These extension
classes are intended for the adult
seeking to supplement his general
education and for the specialist
seeking supplementary instruc-
tion in his specialized field. The
mathematics courses have been
planned with this in view.
The course in Spanish is fur-
ther evident of the awareness
of Yeshiva College regarding
Trends and events in American
life. Taking into consideration
the fact that Pan-Americanism
is becoming a reality, rather than
a slogan and the future import-
ance of South America in the
solution of Jewish post-war prob-
lems, Yeshiva College intends to
widen th scope of the course
listed as Spanish, although at
the moment, it refers only to the
study of the language.
The faculty and full curricu-
lum will be announced soon. M-
ing that the Extension Courses
are intended as a service to the
general public, suggestions and
preference submitted by the
readers of this publication and
preference will be greatly appre-
ciated. Application for admission,
as well as suggestions, should be
addressed to the director of ex-
tension, Yeshiva College, Amster-
dam Ave. at 187th St.; New York
City. It is advisable that appli-
cations be mailed in the early
part of this month.
Beside the scheduled regular
courses to be given in the Yes-
hiva College Buildings, Mr. Levy
has announced an elaborate pro-
gram of lectures on varied sub-
jects to be arranged through the
courtesy of the College in vari-
ous communities throughout the
country.

2,000 Palestine Boys Join
Agricultural Squads

LONDON.—Two thousand Pal-
estine Jewish youths, too young
to join the military forces, are
digging for victory in the hills
and plains of the Holy Land,
according to A. Hartzfeld, direct-
or of Merkaz Chaklai, Agricul-
tural Workers Organization affil-
iated with the Histadruplith,
Palestine Labor Federation.
The agricultural producing ca-
pacity and output of the country
are of military importance. Pal-
estine, in view of the present
situation in the Middle East,
must become not only self-suffi-
cient but must also be able to
produce for the troops stationed
there. A noted food expert, Mr.
Van Bergh, stated recently that
with the food resources in Eur-
ope diminishing, Palestine will
have to become an important
food center for Europe during
the difficult post-war period.

Our joys shall always last;
For hope shall brighten (lays to
come,
And memory gild the past!
