Aaron Simon, president of
Congregation Bnai Israel, better
known as the Old Mollette Street
Shul, announces that the con-
gregation will conduct High
Holy Day services in two places.
Regular services will be held at
the present location, Linwood,
corner Buena Vista, and supple-
mentary services will be held in
rented quarters at 13739 Lin-
wood at Pasadena, thus being
able to serve and accommodate
a major portion of Jews at the
Linwood section.
Good cantors versed in the tra-
ditional rendering of the services
have been engaged, and out-
standing speakers will deliver the
sermons both in Yiddish and in
English. The proceeds will go
towards the fund which is being
established for the building of
a new synagogue on the lot pur-
chased by the congregation on
Dexter at Buena Vista. Tickets
may be obtained at either place
any evening.
The synagogue committee at
Linwood and Buena Vista con-
sists of Messrs. Sachs, Kaminsky
and Applebaum; the committee
for the supplementary services
at Linwood at Pasadena . consists
of Messrs. Lesser, Lichtenstein,

NAZIS ARREST 100 LEADING
JEWS IN PARIS ROUNDUP

Schorenstein has ben keeping
records for Kings County for
more than 25 years. But one
thing has been bothering the
citizens. They don't know
whether Hyman can read and
write. Hyman says: "Let's keep
the public guessing."
As Kings County Commis-
sioner of Records, Schorenstein
has been considered illiterate
for 15 years now. Scheduled to
retire December 31, his job
having been abolished by Mayor
F. II. LaGuardia, Schorenstein
refu s es to look pen and paper
in the eye.
In a recent interview shrewd
Hyman war s talkative and down-
right friendly. When an ink-
well was placed before hint,
lightning darted front h i s
gleaming eyes and he said:
"Take it away." Years and
years ago when the rumor
spread that Hyman couldn't
sign his name, and, worse than
that, couldn't read the X which
all illiterates use, a good friend
said in his defense: "So What?"
Hyman apparently sticks to
that query.
Schorenstein took exception
to Mayor La Guardia's remark
that an incumbent in the Com-
missionership is "an Oxford
scholar." "No," he said in pub-
lic statement, "I wouldn't qua-
lify. I came here as a poor
immigrant boy, went to work at
the age of 10 and learned little
outside of an appreciation of
the blessings of this country."
Ilyman's statement was type-
written, including the signa-
ture.

LONDON (JPS) — A Jewish
parachutist named Moiseivitch
has won high praise from the
Soviet press for feats of great
daring against the Germans. Ac-
cording to the Russian newspa-
pers, he landed behind the Ger-
man lines and succeeded in de-
stroying single-named two ar-
mored cars, 20 motor cycles, and
staff cars in which a number of
infantry officers were riding.
