MEYER NEWMAN

on Aug. 24 at the age of 58.
Burial took place on Aug. 25 at
Toledo, 0. Surviving him are his
wife, Hattie, and a daughter,
Miriam; three sisters, Mrs. Eva
Sobin of Toledo, Mrs. Esther
Levenson of Detroit, and Mrs.
Ada Miller of Los Angeles; three
brothers, Aaron of Detroit, Mor-
ris of Toledo and Dr. Ben New-
man of Los Angeles.
Mr. Newman was a 'member of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek and
Pisgah Lodge of Bnai Brith.

GENEVA. (JPS)—Strong de-
nunciation of the new anti-
Semitic policy which Finland is
pursuing since it became allied
with Germany is voiced in the
Socialist newspaper Soger Sozial
Democratic. The Finnish paper
reminds the country of the brave-
ry of the Jewish soldiers who
fought against Russia in 1939.
It points out that the number
of Jewish soldiers in the Finnish
ranks far exceeded the propor-
tion of non-Jews. "How can Fin-
land forget it all so quickly?"
the Socialist organ asks.

Famous 9 Pony Hitch Coming to State Fair

The annual convention of Na-
tional Young Judaea is being
held in the form of a leaders'
conference at the Young Judaean
Camp in Amherst, N. H., over
the Labor Day week-end, Aug.
28 to Sept. 1. Dr. Aharon Kess-
ler is executive director of
Young Judaea, which is the
junior affiliate of the Zionist Or-
ganization of America.
The program calls for a seri-
ous discussion of current Zionist
problems and for an evaluation
of the role which Young Judaea
can play in fostering greater
Zionist sentiment among Ameri-
can Jewish children. The confer-
ence will also be called upon to
approve in final form the na-
tional reorganization plan which
has already been accepted by a
majority of the leaders of the
country.

was born in Adelsheim, Baden,
Germany, 69 years ago, and was
formerly a resident of Bay City,
Mich. She was a member of the
Temple Beth El Sisterhood for
more than 40 years, and also a
member of the Eastern Star
Lodge. She is survived by her
sister and brother-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Max Hamburger; a
niece ; Mrs. Manuel E. Arden,
and three nephews, Irwin, Bert
and Abner Hamburger.
