2 DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and the Legal Chronicle Synagogues Further Sabbath Observance Plans for the dedication of the year 5702 to an intensive educa- tional drive for a wider observ- ance of the Sabbath in house- holds and on the thickly popu- lated Jewish streets of Detroit, were outlined at a meeting of the Women's Branch, Michigan Syna- gogue Conference, held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Joshua S. Sperka, president. Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelernter, head of the reli- gious-educational committee of the conference, and Mrs. Abraham Caplan, chairman of Sabbath ob- servance, addressed the meeting. Mrs. Abraham Danzig, vice-presi- dent, and Mrs. David J. Cohen, secretary of the Women's Branch, also participated. A unique slogan for the Sab- bath observance campaign, which has received its impetus through the closing of 18 Jewish bakeries on Saturdays since July 12, will be the Hebrew initials of the next calendar year, "Tay, Shin, Beth" spelling "Shabat." The initial city-wide gathering of women's organizations, at which the details of the project will be unfolded, is planned for Monday, Sept. 29, with a na- tionally prominent women's lead- er as guest speaker.
