Nazi Radio Amuses Jews Who Sing Old "V" Song LONDON—A Jewish soldier of the Palestine Auxiliary Pioneer Corps relates the following re- garding the evacuation from Greece: "A small group of us were mak- ing our way under heavy bomb- ing from Thrace to Athens, hop- ing to find our unit on the way. We reached our objectives, but found that the unit had been evacuated. Thereupon we com- mandeered a small vessel and made our way along the southern coast of Greece. Enemy planes sank our craft, but we managed to land on a small island and succeeded in rigging up a radio. "The first thing we heard was an enemy broadcast describing the hour and conditions under which our craft was sunk, but the imaginative Nazis made a mountain out of a mole-hill, or, shall we say, a battleship out of a motor-boat, and a company out of several scores of soldiers. "This broadcast amused us so much that we threw caution to the winds; we laughed and sang the Hatikvah at the top of our voices, which, incidenally,' at- tracted a British destroyer. We were taken aboard and then, at the invitation of the ship's com- pany, we sang the first two verses of Hatikvah again. Our non- Jewish friends asked us to in- terpret it to them and were sur- prised to learn that it is an old Jewish V song." You can buy QUALITY KOSHER MEAT with Confidence from Aaron B. This program is a thrilling and impressive call for defense of democratic ideals. It is being presented by Station WJR as a public service. Detroiters are urged to listen in on this program and to comment upon it. Mr. Mitchell made his announcement through Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka, vice-president of the Detroit Chapter of the American Jewish Congress, to whom he made the statement that he and Station WJR were exceedingly pleased to be able to render service to the cause of democracy in this fashion. ZIFF HONORED BY AVIATORS WASHINGTON (JPS) — The International League of Aviators has voted an honor diploma to William B. Ziff, Chicago publisher of aviation magazines, for his contribution to popularization of flying knowledge. Mr. Ziff was at one time a leader of the Re- visionist-Zionists in the United States. Attack Against World Zionist Leadership Deplored NEW YORK (JPS)—Declaring that it has noted a tendency on the part of the present leadership of the Zionist movement in Amer- ica to challenge the authority of the authority of the World Zion- ist Organization, the Jewish Morning Journal stated editorially that only after it had demonstrat- ed its capacity to carry out a constructive program could the Z. 0. A. leadership make any bid for control of the policies of the world organization. The Yiddish newspaper deplores the criticism levelled at the older leaders in American Zionism and the outstanding personalities in world Zionism, maintaining that the opposition is based on personal grounds rather than on any ideo- logical differences. There is no place for such partisan strife at the present time, the editorial warns, adding that no evidence has yet come forward of any constructive achievements of the organizations which have been taken over by the "new" leaders. "That these leaders now wish to minimize and discard certain forces, and especially those which have all this time drawn their in- spiration from the world leader- ship, which in essence repre- sents a truly Jewish source, and then take steps against the world leaders alone in order to replace them with some colorless form of American Zionism, is certainly not to be recommended," the Jew- ish Morning Journal said. Such action cannot be condoned on the ground that Washington has assumed greater importance than London as the center for fu- ture negotiations regarding the status of Palestine, the editorial asserts. Germans Accuse Jews of Urging Use of Gas CHARLEVOIX BEACH HOTEL . . . Overlooking Lake Michigan The kind of hospitality and service that will make your summer vacation complete. LONDON.—(JPS) — Increas- ing evidence that the Germans contemplate the early use of gas on the eastern front, if their offensive bogs down is given in the latest outpourings of the Nazi press, which charges that "Jewish Bolshevik leaders" are urging the Soviet Government to use gas against German troops. The Jews, according to the Nazi invention, are eager to employ chemicals because a Jewish sci- entist in Soviet Russia, Jakub Trachtenberg, has discovered a new method for countering the effects of gas.
