GLASSMAN'S
RESORT

South Haven, Mich.

Three gifts of equipment, pre-
sented to North End Clinic within
the past few weeks, have resulted
in increased efficiency in the car-
rying out of the clinic's program.
One of the gifts, a whirlpool
bath, is a specialized addition to
the physical therapy department.
The other two items, a motor
driven ointment mixer and a
refrigerator, facilitate the work
of the entire clinic through the
greater effectiveness afforded the
pharmacy and laboratory.
Housed in the new Joshua
Cohen Memorial addition to the
North End Clinic Building, en-
larged quarters have permitted
the expansion of the clinic's
physical therapy department. The
whirlpool bath, a portable, under-
water therapy tank, large enough
for arm, leg and hip hydro-mas-
sage, is used in the treatment of
stiffness of the joints, weak and
painful feet and to promote the
healing of fractures. The com-
bined action of heat and gentle
massage afforded by the whirling
water results in improved circula-
tion. The pool was presented to
the physical therapy department
anonymously, from "Friends of
the Clinic."

12.327 Treatments

In the now well equipped physi-
cal therapy department of North
End Clinic, 12,327 treatments
were given in 1940. Treatments
were administered for: arthritis,
neuritis, bursitis, sciatica, per-
iphero-vascular diseases and skin
diseases. Postural correction was
given children and adults. The
physical therapy department is
conducted under the direction of
two orthopedists and two physi-
cians of the department of medi-
cine, who have had special train-
ing in the field.
Laboratory Gif t
The Joshua Cohen Memorial
addition to North End Clinic also
houses the new clinic laboratory
where a new refrigerator has re-
cently been installed. The refrig-
erator is the gift of Mrs. Albert
Kahn. Mrs. Kahn serves on the
North End Clinic board of trus-
tees.

Pharmacy Equipment

A labor-saving d c v i c e, the
motor-driven ointment mixer,
speeds up the work of the clinic's
pharmacy where an average of
150 prescriptions are dispensed
during a morning session. The
electric ointment-mixing machine
was donated to North End Clinic
by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene J. Arn-
feld and Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Moses, in honor of the birthdays
of their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Wineman. Mr. Arnfeld
also acts as a trustee of the
clinic.
Serving as a general clinic,
whose purpose is to provide medi-
cal care for ambulatory needy
persons without charge, or for
payment of such proportion of
the cost as they are able to pay,
North End Clinic was established
