the Young People's Society of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek held
at the home of Mildred Jacobs,
the following officers were elect-
ed: Rubin Zissman, president;
Sam Hertzberg, vice-president;
Ralph Friedman, treasurer; Mil-
dred Jacobs, recording secre-
tary; Evelyn Pearlman, publicity
secretary. Board members are the
officers, Sarabel Drootman, Maur-
ice Coggan and Morrie Safron.

The Ladies of Yeshiva Beth
Judah are sponsoring an excur-
sion to Bob-Lo Sunday, June 15.

Israel M. Hertz was honored
by a grouts of friends this week,
on his 50th birthday, by having
his name inscribed in the Golden
Book of the Jewish National
Fund in Jerusalem.

Dr. Charles Stolar Elected
National Supreme Chancel-
lor of Mu Sigma Pi

At the convention of the Mu
Sigma Pi Fraternity, national
Jewish optometric organization,
held May 30-June 2 at Hotel Sho-
reham in Chicago, Dr. Charles
Stolar of Detroit was re-elected
national supreme chancellor.
Other officers elected are: Dr.
Irving Brennen of Chicago, su-
preme vice-chancellor, and Dr.
Samuel Hauser of Covington, Ky.

scribe. Dr. Eric W. Fantle, re-
nowned rekgee physician, who
was graduated from the Univer-
sity of Vienna, was among the
fraternity members who lectured.

Detroit at the conclave: Drs.

Leon Firestone, and Herman Ber-
lin, and Misses Rochelle Green,
Arlyne Kutzen, Eleanor Wolf,

`Defend Palestine' Program
of Zionist Youth of Detroit
on June 18

Taking cognizance of the pres-
ent international situation and
the strategic position of Pales-
tine in the Meditteranian strug-
gle, the Zionist youth have re-
solved to awaken Americans, par-
ticularly American Jews, to the
part being played by Palestine
in today's world.
In answer to this need, Zionist
youth throughout the United
States are having "Defense Pal-
estine" programs. Detroit Zionist
outh will also sponsor such a
meeting for the local Jewish
community. The Zionist Youth
Council extends a call to all
youth and adults to show their
faith and to throw all their
forces behind the defense of
Eretz Israel by attending the
rally to be held Wednesday eve-
ning, June 18. Further details
will be announced soon.

Bernard Joseph Leaves for
South Africa

JERUSALEM. — (Palcor) —
Dr. Bernard Joseph, legal ad-
viser to the Jewish Agency who
recently returned to Palestine
after a lengthy stay in the
United States, has left for South
Africa on a mission assigned to
him by the Jewish Agency.

of Toronto. He is a graduate of
the Conservatory of Music and is
a master violinist. He will be ac-
companied to Detroit by a group
of executives of the Mount Sinai
Hospital of Toronto.
Dr. Hugo Freund will bring a
message of importance and Dr.
Harry Saltzstein will report on
the hospital designation to the
1941 Allied Jewish Campaign.
Mrs. Robert E. Shore will render
solo selectionss.
Conferring of service stripes by
Mrs. Thornton Brodhead, chair-
man of the Detroit chapter of
the American Red Cross upon the
Mount Sinai Red Cross Unit, will
also be featured. Nathaniel Gold-
stick, Assistant Corporation Coun-
sel, will be the toastmaster. Mu-
sic will be by Dave Diamond's
orchestra.
Mrs. Joshua Karbal, general
chairman announced that dinner,
which is optional, will be served
at 5:30 p. m. Rabbi Leon Fram
will give the invocation. There
will be dancing during the din-

Flag Day Celebration of
Ladies Auxiliary of Jew-
ish War Veterans

Flag Day celebration of the
Detroit Ladies' Auxiliary No. 135
of Jewish War Veterans will be
honored with presentation of col-
ors to the Daughters Chapter,
on Sunday, June 15, at 2 p. nr
in the Veterans Building, East
Jefferson at Hastings, Detroit.
The occasion will impress the
children with their interest in
patriotic endeavors, joining in the
family link of veterans as pledged
toward Americanism. The demon-
stration will be public and every-
body is invited. Joyce Cantor is
president.
The Red Cross Unit of the
Auxiliary was moved to larger
and better quarters on the sec-
ond floor of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center, Woodward at Hol-
brook. The work-shop will be
opened daily, Monday through
Thursday, from 10 a. m. to 4
p. m.

Board of Home Relief
Society to Meet June 13

Belvedere Park, on Utica Road,
west of Schoenherr Road.
A union orchestra has been en-
gaged to furnish the dance mu-
sic in the spacious (lance pavi-
lion. Home-made meals and re-
freshments will be served at
nominal prices, so that there will
be no necessity to cook at home
or bring food along. There will
be novelties, amusements and en-
tertainment. The admission price
is 25 cents and there will be
prizes. The proceeds will be uti-
lized to maintain the local pa-
tients in the Los Angeles Sana-
torium.
The shortest route to the Bel-
vedere Park is as follows: Six
Mile or McNichols Road to
Schoenherr Rd. (one block north
of Gratiot) East on Schoenherr
Road to Utica Road (15 1/2 mile
Rd.), left on Utica Road, to the
Park. Signs will be posted on
Utica and Schoenherr Road to
guide autoists.
To facilitate those who have
no cars, D. S. R. busses will leave
Jericho Temple, 2705 Joy Road,
at 11 and at 1:30, they will pick
up passengers at Taylor and
12th and at Oakland and West-
minster. The round trip fave for
adults will be 35 cents, children,
20 cents.

pupil of Julius Chajes of the
