Lublin Message
Asks for Rescue

NEW YORK.—The first di-
rect call from the Lublin Dis-
trict, Poland, where the Nazis
h a v e established a "Jewish
Reservation" for Jews of all
ages and walks of life from
all parts of the former Polish
Republic, from Czechoslovakia
and from the Reich, has reach-
ed the Hebrew Sheltering and
Immigrant Aid Society. The
call which was passed by the
Nazi censors came from the
"Rada Zydowska w Lublinie"
(The Jewish Council in Lublin)
and conveys a request for aid
and cooperation in extending
to the prisoners of the "Jewish
Reservation" the benefit of the
rescue through emigration serv-
ice.
Dated Dec. 18, 1940 the call
sets forth in matter of fact
language the request of the
Council's Emigration Depart-
ment to HIAS to secure relief
and ultimately make possible
the emigration to countries
overseas of those residents of
the Lublin "Jewish Reserva-
tion" whose relatives or friends
in the United States and other
countries are in a position to
facilitate their rescue by issu-
ing the necessary affidavits and
other documents required un-
der the prevailing immigration
laws.
