are now being quoted.
It was in the middle of De-
cember, 1940, that a reduction
on the rates of shipments was
first announced. Then, at the
end of December, further reduc-
tions were reported. All such
reduced rates, of course, exclude
shipments to or from French or
Italian possessions.

the third wall of ancient Jeru-

tant from the wall and the tow-

of the American School of Orien-
tal Research in this city.
The continuing excavations are
being conducted under the joint
auspices of a Hebrew University
expedition, headed by Professor
L. A. Mayer and E. L. Sukenik,
and the American School.

ams of tobacco planted here last
year by the families of twenty
farmers in co-operation with
hired laborers, who receive a
part of the crop as their wage,
have yielded twelve tons of the
leaves, which have been sold to
Jewish factories at 160 mils per
kilogram — a total of 1,920

may have never got around to

tically all the cigarette paper used
here came from France . . The
circumstances that no shortage of
cigarette paper has occurred now,
as it did in the last war, is due
the foresight of people like the
sons of the late philanthropist
Peter M. Schweitzer, who have
built their own manufacturing
plant in the East, and Harry H.
Straus, who has found a way of
using flax-seed in the manufac-
ture of this type of paper, and
now has a huge mill in North
Carolina making it.
